Looking for Archers

Hi all,

Just tinkering with a base class idea. I am after an awesome archer. As far as I know the Ranger base class seems to be the best start and the prestige class Arcane Archer looks ripe for idea milking.

Are there any other inspiring archer base/prestige classes about that I can glean ideas from?

Fighter is a better start than ranger if you just want to be good with the bow. Ranger's get no weapon focus or weapon specilization.

Now if you want more skill points and the other ranger stuff ranger would be your choice.

The reason why I didn’t choose Fighter was because I like the Arcane Archers arcane archery abilities (it’s a prereq to be able to cast 1st level arcane spells) and to make a base class with wicked magic like that you’d have to cut back the BAB.

Nifft, I like the Imbue/Enhance Arrow of your AA – that’s exactly what I was hoping for – a little more pizzazz at the end of an arrow. All I’d like now is for your AA to be a base class.

Arkhandus, special Ranged Attack Bonus eh? Interesting. Deflect Arrows feat? Why not deflect them with more arrows as a special ability?

Yes, Deepwood Sniper has some cool stuff going on but a little to unchivalrous for my liking.

Actually, I’m thinking of some sort of Scout/Arcane Archer base class…

People forget that the CompWar version of the Kensai can imbue a ranged weapon as his special weapon, and that's a class that can really pump the potency of its weapons. (I'm doing one right now.)

The possibility of running an archer who launches + 5 Holy Flaming Frost Shocking arrows is somewhat...intoxicating.

And, for the record, its prereqs are easier to qualify for than most of the archery PrCls (+5BAB, Any Lawful; 5 ranks in 3 particular skills; Combat Expertise & WeapFocus).

The tough prereq to come up with is the ranks in Diplomacy- of the "warrior" classes, only the Samurai (either CW or OA), Paladin, Soulborn, and Hexblade actually have that as a class skill along with the other 2 prereq skills.

Arcane archer requires arecane spell casting, ranger cast divine spells. So you'll take a BAB cut either way.

Unless I'm misunderstanding you.
