Listened to a podcast recently on Charles IV and realized that I know very little about HRE's place in the medieval world, so I'm seeking a book recommendation to give me some grounding. Not sure on any specific time focus on there other than I want it to include the 11th-13th centuries.
Looking for something at the level of Plantagenets (Dan Jones), Storm Before the Storm (Mike Duncan), or Empires of the Normans (Levi Roach) - decently written historical narrative with a focus on the major dates and figures. I know there is a place for nuance and competing viewpoints but it's hard to do that without the basic historic framework to operate from.
