Well... I just posted at the Pits of Evil forum Hardhead recomended. Anyway, we'll see what kind of response it gets, but I thought I might as well post the info here as well, since it has a bit more info.
Btw... if you're in my campaign... DO NOT read this!
Where to start... first of all I'm a new poster on this wonderful board, so hi to everyone . Anyway, I'm one of two co-DM's of an epic-level campaign that started as a standard 1st level 3rdEd D&D game nearly two and a half years ago. The game is set in the Forgotten Realms, but we're using the Planescape cosmology for the planes, etc. One of the characters in our party (the player changed characters 6 mo's into the game) is a half-fiend, with ties to Dis. As the game progressed he has gotten more involved with Dispater and his minions, now becoming one of Dispater's servants. A powerful one now that the character is an 18th lvl sorcerer with 2 cleric levels (in my campaign the Dukes are able to grant some spells). The rest of the party is 24th lvl and are as powerful as you would expect at that level.
Over the years the party has had several adventures and dealings in hell (the party alignment ranges from LE to CG, but mostly neutral). In the last 3 months an interesting deception has taken place... the follower of Dis has had a change of heart and given up his worship of evil (not that it was ever widely known, since it was mostly hidden, except from party members). He has now become a devout follower of Azuth, changing his alignment and goals. Dispater of course sends devils and other minions every so often to try to kill the player. The faith change was a somewhat gradual process that took some time... anyway, it's all a lie . Only the player and I know the truth of it, which is that he is still very much a servant of Dispater. The deception will better allow him to corrupt party members and carry out Dispater's goals in a stealthier fashion.
In the adventure we're in right now, we're required to get this item:
Molikroth’s Ice Orchid: This extremely difficult to obtain orchid comes from Molikroth’s Garden in Cania on Baator. This garden is considered one of the most remarkable and life-changing sights of the outer planes. It is composed entirely of frozen bouquets of flowers and rock gardens frosted over with ice. Delicate snow and ice dew covers the many roses here but the main attraction is the ice orchid. To Baatezu scholars it is a symbol of control over change, to the Tanar’ri it’s a symbol of the death of fertility, but most are awed by its strange and amazing beauty. This orchid has long stems and leaves composed out of a rich purple-black color with white ringed, dark blue spots over its frost covered surface. The flower has a bright white core with lighting blue striping that extends to a royal blue-purple on its edges. It constantly exudes a biting cold that causes a light mist to issue from it. Ice orchids are difficult to take care of and require careful attention. If spends more then just a few minutes in below freezing temperature it begins to wither and die.
Anyway, it's a required component for the research the party wizard needs to develop an Epic Spell (long story there, but unrelated to the subject at hand). The other DM in the group is running the adventure for us to get the flower this weekend, so that should be it for our background info on hell. Though, after this weekend there is a chance we might have an enemy in in Mephisto, though we're hoping that it doesn't end up that way...
So that's the basic background that might help me with my problem, which is this... I came across this miniature:
http://www.heresyminiatures.com/images/pages/hm005.htm
The thing is massive and I'm working on putting it together and painting it sometime in the next month or so... anyway, the damn thing is so cool I want to use it as a major bad-guy in a game. I'm not telling any of my players about it, until I pull that sucker out . So... I now simply need to think of a plot to use him in, lol.
The mini could be Mephistopheles himself, which would make a heck of an opponent (though he might be too much of a sacred cow). Asmodeus and Dispater could ally against Mephisto, Asmo offering Dispater rulership of Cania. The party could be an excellent tool for Dispater to attack Mepthisto with (though most of the party would have to be duped into doing this).
Another plot idea is that perhaps the mini could be one of Dispater's officers, one wanting Dispater's power... perhaps stealing some of it and the party has to hunt him down before he takes all of it. This traitor might be working for one ofthe other lords, or at least have them as an ally... another idea would be to take the traitor concept even further and have him ally with the Tanar'ri... has such a thing ever happened? Is it even possible? Any plot ideas for this adventure would be greatly appreciated . I'm sure the devious minds here have some thoughts on this, hehe.
Anyway... I think to pull any of this off, I need ALOT of information on Hell and it's politics. Right now I have the Manual of the Planes, the Book of Vile Darkness, Legions of Hell, Tome of Horror (which has some interesting devils), Planes of Law and Faces of Evil. I'm thinking that I'm going to need a sort of organizational chart of the current politics of Hell, who's over whom, who's allied with who, the rankings of Dispater's minions, etc... Anyone have other suggestions on where I can find info on stuff like this? I'm not sure if anyone has a product that goes into that level of detail or if there is some useful info on this on the web (I've had little luck finding it). Well, that should be it... thank you for reading all this! Thanks guys!!!
