Looking for PC Game recommendations

On my system right now:
Postal 2 (a little too unserious)
Warcraft III
NASCAR Racing 2003 (I like racing because of this game oddly)
Pro Race Driver
Rayman 3
Raven Shield (completely addicted to the COOP mode but that's online)
Freelancer (thought it would be bad without joystick but it rocks)
Combat Flight Simulator 3
No One Live Forever II (perfect game, but I finished it already)
Vietcong (actually a bit educational)
Unreal: The Awakening II (tooooo short but fun)

Games that need to be played, but uninstalled for future play because they haven't "grabbed me" yet:
Icewind Dale II
Neverwinter Diablo... er Nights
Simcity 4 (slow on even the fastest systems)
Morrowwind

Games in the hobby budget for next month:
Enter the Matrix
IGI Covert Strike
Colin McCrae 3 (PC... version 4 is coming out in like 6 more months. Lazy developers IMO)
Red Faction II
Some more...

Sincerely,

V

Enter the Matrix

I would rent this on a console(it's out for all of them). The game was just mediocre, if you are a HUGE Matrix fan then you might enjoy it. It's been getting mediocre reviews across the net. If the game had been made specifically for PC then could have been great, but the console portness of it is strong in this one. So, I would rent it, borrow from a friend, or wait for a demo and see if you like it. Honestly, if you only wanted it for the action you could do all of that if the demo level is sufficiently large enough.

Really? Where? The whole of gaming journalism has been at E3 for about a week and I still haven't seen any professional reviews and opinions at Gamefaqs so far have been rather varied, though there seem to be more positive so far.

The only opinions toward the negative I have seen (can't remember where but it was either Gamespot or GamesDomain) talk about how it doesn't exactly meet and beat Max Payne. Max Payne was a great game for the entertainment value, but I would get Enter the Matrix to complete the experience of watching the movie.

Here's the thing. If you don't own a decent gamepad (Logitech Wingman Rumblepad Cordless in my case) the game might be much like a lot of other failer PS2 ports. Another game that kicks entertainment value butt is The Hulk which I played the demo so far. The exception to this is Splinter Cell, which, IMO, was much better with a mouse/keyboard.

V

Well I'm platform agnostic, thank you Sega, so getting a console version is not a problem. I just have doubts from the GMR preview plus early impression from people at Gamefaqs (game crashing bugs in a console games is so unacceptable I can't possibility put it in words).

I do need to get me one of those PS2 to PC controller adaptors and a good arcade stick, though.

I need a super TV before I ever think about consoles. Horrible res when you are used to 21 inch CRTs. My 32 inch TV with 800 res looks like crap with games and the PS2, IMO.

Sincerely,

Mike

Sorry, let me restate this, the game is not worth $50. It's pretty short and just OK to play. If you can go out and rent Matrix: Reloaded and beat it in a week for $5 you are ahead of the game. If there was some multi capabilities then it would be worth buying.

Also here are some Reviews

Have there ever been any games based on movie licenses that were any good? Seriously, I'm not trying to be a jerk here. I just honestly don't know. In the past, all of them that I tried were mediocre at best, so I don't even look at them anymore.

If I only bought games I really, really thought were great I would probably play very few games. Most games just have to hit the entertainment level of fun and I am satisfied.

I don't have a console anyway, so renting is not even an option.
