looking for some flavor for my druid

questbreaker

First Post
ok for an upcoming and short-lived campaign (we are using it for the remaining players due to one players sudden month-long absence) i am playing a druid. so far what i have for my character is this:

level 10

Official WoTC stuff OK (provided i can present it to him, i have a decent quantity of books). He usually frowns upon other settings, but this time he gave off that 'anything goes' aura since its a short-lived campaign.

anthropomorphic bat

no stats rolled yet

havent decided if i want to use the elemental companion variant (but i know that i do like it)

i want to keep my spellcasting (ie no multiclassing that doesnt have a full divine caster progression), im leaning favorably towards not multiclassing.

feat-wise i am looking at getting aberration blood and aberration wild shape (he is an anthro-bat, so he came from caves. aberrations are something he would know more about, since a lot of them are in the cave habitat)

im not looking to break the campaign this time around so planar shepherd isnt on the top of my to-do list.
=======================================================
i am looking for suggestions on what my animal companion could be (if i choose not to use the elemental companion variant). preferably something amusing for a small anthro bat to ride.

i originally wanted a cohort to carry me about like a pet, but my DM 0'd the leadership feat out. he said hireling would suffice but i would prefer something not so frail, and with class levels. i dont know what the other PCs are going to be so i dont know if they are going to be willing (or trustworthy enough) to carry me. perhaps an animated object would suffice.

i dont know, im looking for something that is somewhat amusing and not entirely non-functional. i would like options with or without the elemental companion variant.

Just out of curiosity, have you checked out the Anthropomorphic Animal rules in Savage Species? If so, about how high do you think your ECL is going to be?

As for your animal companion, a bat immediately springs to mind...kind of like how Tarzan the Human had Cheetah the Chimp.

There are all kinds of critters that live in caves besides bats. Most, however, are arthropods. Scorpions, Spiders, Centipedes, Uropygi (whip scorpions), Amblypygi, Palpigradi, Pseudoscorpions, and Solifugae (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arachnida#Amblypygi) would be appropriate.

Some kind of fungal companion would be appropriate as well- ever read Mt. Zogon by Tony Mosely?

A crystalline critter might work as well, though I don't know off hand if any would be of appropriate HD.

yes, ECL 10. the anthropomorphic bat has 0 LA and is ECL 1 at creation, and as a small anthropomorph it gives up its single monstrous hit die in exchange for the first level of a class. i like the idea of a spider or scorpion or something, now that im around my books i will get it drawn out and see what it looks like!

Have you considered using "Awaken" on your companion?

If that's permissible, then it could take levels in rogue... Imagine, a lockpicking scorpion!
