Lords of Madness Stuff (Update: Some folks have it!)

So, the 10 player reasons article indicated that neogi enjoyed a higher profile in older editions. Anyone know what the deal with them is? I saw their MMII entry, and was fairly "meh" about it. Evil slavers aren't anything new or rare.

Neogi were a big thing in Spelljammer. (And they had a variant, the Tso, that was a moderate thing in Planescape.)

I'd like to hear more about this beholder magic. In particular, I'd like to hear how quasi-beholders like gauths function without limbs. No TK ray to manipulate objects, and no charm ray to get others to manipulate objects for them. Floating quadriplegics basically.

That's because the Gauth is now a nerfed Beholder. In previous editions, they weren't. They had four tentacles/tendrils/feelers that allowed them to manipulate items and to drain magic.

Think he was wondering if the actual stat blocks would be presented, or will they just say "see MMII for stats".

Gotcha. I've not seen the undead book, but the draconomicon had lots of stat blocks layed out for its featured creatures, I'd guess it would be the same sort of thing. It will be interesting to check it out once it is available.

Cheers

I wonder if the neogi will be republished in this, or will this essentially require a non-core book to use?
WotC understands this is not profitable. Their policy is to reprint material where needed to pad the page count and appease new players- something they're always angling for. TSR did not understand it isn't profitable to force consumers to buy books already sold to retailers, and they alienated many customers requiring the use of books long defunct for new products. You would think this lesson would be easily learned, but it's still repeated by many third party publishers. Some people are just jerks.

I couple of the 2e beholder kin were left out of the FR books. I hope they're printed in here, for official versons at least. The Creature Catalog has them all :)

I hope there's a lot of the ecological stuff that I was in I Tyrant and the 2e Mind flayer book as well. But they shouldn't reprint it wholescale. At least Bruce Cordell is writing it, I'm sure he can put a new twist on the material.
