Lost - 04/18/07 - "Catch-22"

hopefully they can have a cool climax without killing more people.

Well, five more characters--characters assumedly more important than, say, Frogurt guy--are apparently going to bite it before the season's over, so I'm afraid you probably aren't going to get your wish that they stop killing off survivors. I'd bet ten bucks Charlie dies in his flashback episode just before the season finale.

I'd imagine that the rest of the dead would be selected from among the rather less important characters, though: Tom, Parachutist Girl ("We all know what happens to guest stars"), Locke's dad, Alex, and... Alex's Brainwashed Boyfriend, whose name currently escapes me. But who knows? Perhaps another main character will also die in the big survivors/Others showdown that's supposed to happen. Oh, I do so hope it's Jack...

I quit watching for a while when they killed off Charlie in the first season and then didn't let it stick. Not because I wanted Charlie dead, but because I felt it was a cheat. However, now they could kill off anyone and I wouldn't trust them not to bring back the dead. But there are other aspects of the show that I like, so I will continue to watch as I have time. I would like to see Locke's dad get offed, though. I dispise him even more than Ben. Ben is just pathetic, IMO, whereas Locke's pop is pure evil.

M'eh.

I'm not saying this season's been a wash for me, but way too little happening. Between 'guest star' episodes, Hurley starting a car, Kate's flashbacks that in my opinion had NOTHING to do with what was going on, Other flashbacks that I didn't care about, etc..., about the only episode I've really enjoyed so far has been the one with Locke.

I re-watched the first few minutes, and now I am confused about something.

During Desmond's first set of future "flashes" we see a number of things that can come to pass, including Charlie getting shot in the throat. We also see people--including Charlie--holding the parachute in place to catch something (which we later find out to be a person).

However, the parachute-holding event happens AFTER Charlie getting killed. So, if Desmond were seeing flashes of a single jigsaw puzzle picture, as he might put it, then how could he see both Charlie dying AND Charlie helping to catch someone with a parachute AFTER Charlie supposedly died?

Do you think this was a mistake on the show's part, or is it evidence that when Desmond sees a set of flashes they are NOT necessarily of the same "jigsaw puzzle picture?" Or is something else at play here?

Later,

I have not tried to think logically about Desmond "seeing the future".

I try not to think of them but I think it showed Desmond that he needed to save Charlie to get to that event, if Charlie was not saved, they would have not found the jumper, was Charlie not the one that was talking to get Desmond to turn around, which allowed Desmond to see the pack, and have the group look up.
