I thought it was an excellent episode, especially considering the setup given at the end of season 2. Yes, the Losties are being manipulated and there is something going on that we don't know about but that's not the whole thing. Sawyer and Kate are excellent at manipulation and making other people think things about them that they want to. As for Jack - not so much.
There were nods between the three of them before they were separated. I think there is a loose plan in effect. Something along the lines of play along until a chance presents itself and then just maybe wait a little longer and play the part. Jack is good a reacting and being emotional and pissed off so he is the best choice to be the hot-headed catalyst. The other two can just play the part and take in their surroundings as to better manipulate them.
I am in no way saying that the Losties are in control but at least it appears that they are in the game. And in general I think Juliette is the biggest threat to the Losties. I think the writers have made that very obvious so far.
And about the cliffhanger: Considering the pace of the show, the size of the cast and the story so far I am cool with it. I wasn't expecting something like we just saw 6 eps ago so perhaps my expectations weren't that high. Additionally, I'd rather wait the 3 months and then have non-stop eps the rest of the way than the stutter-step that we got last year. There are other things that will occupy my time during the holidays.

For all of Ben's insistence that they are the good guys, and his outrage at Ana Lucia that she killed two "good men", it's pretty obvious these guys are content to commit murder, as evidenced by Goodwin's casual snapping of Nathan's neck back in season 2--and Goodwin was supposedly one of those "good men".
Oh, and by the time we come back from the 14-week interlude, can we have dropped "Benry" as a name, please? It's not that cute or clever, guys.
