LOST: Sad Orc (Monster Builder customs all murdered)

LOST: Sad Orc :( , too-bright green, funky-fuzzy torso/shirt. He is a little rough around the edges but he is loved dearly. Acts tough but is relatively harmless. REWARD if found.

I recently had to reinstall my Windows. I saved my entire C: drive to an external hard drive. I was able to re-install both the Character Builder and Monster Builder. I found my old CB files and pasted them into the new DDI folder. As the DM, it was strangely comforting seeing these nemesis PC's once more.

But horror! Upon transfering all the MB (Adventure Tools) files, none of my hundreds of custom monsters survived.... I assume they are simply lost. They are probably hibernating in an unknown location, resting until they next taste the blood of human/elf/dwarf/halfling.

Does anyone know where these files are or how to rescue them? It's probably a very simple solution but I can't find the answer anywhere.

If you can help me find my beloved pets, I will be forever grateful and will name my next monster leader after your forum name. And yes, he will taste blood!

I found some Adventure Tools related data under "C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Roaming\AdventureTools" on my Vista 32 box. I don't know at all what the files do in relation to the program.

Other than the obvious one in "Program Files\Wizards of the Coast\Adventure Tools\" that was all I could find.

Not that I'm a genius on the computer, but if you saved your entire C drive you are probably in possession of the requisite files. I say this because the installation of the Monster Builder most likely creates identical file names and you can simply over write with the old content.

I'd search the Google for ways of tracking installation files. It might involve installing a client that tracks changes to your system then reinstalling the Monster Builder. This awesome client would then track all the new files on your system. You could then replace the ones that aren't in the normal Program Files path.

like i said. not a tecnhical expert. good luck =(

Found another one!

I went into the program, made a new creature, saved, exited, then searched my entire computer for files recently modified.

Found modified files at "C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Local\Adventure Tools\" with a timestamp that looked about right.

Doesn't look like there is much in there though. I hope this is helpful to you.

But what kind of BBEG would name himself "Nemisis Destiny"?... But I will name him "______ Destiny" in your honor.

Alas, no luck. I tried both approaches. I did save the entire C: drive, so somewhere the info exists. I went from Vista to W7. In Vista I had an AppData folder, but in W7, I have none that I can tell. Searching for recently modified files after making a custom monster also produced no leads.

I'm beginning to think that I might just have to recreate, that my sad orc will be forever orphaned. Wail.....

The Appdata folder still exists in Windows 7, but note that it's hidden (so you'd only find it if you make hidden folders visible, or by directly entering the folder into your address bar).
