LOTR:TTT Extended Edition News.

First Post
I found this on tolkienonline.com :

[According to an interview in the Official Lord of the Rings Fanclub Magazine, Peter Jackson has confirmed that The Two Towers Special Edition will come in at a whopping 222 minutes in length, a total of 43 minutes added to the film (that's 24% more movie!). Nearly all of this new footage will consist of character scenes, including a good deal of Treebeard expansion and Huorns at Helms Deep.

Pretty cool news if you ask me. Anyone got any more extended edition news & rumours ?

I just hope they add the scene where Farimar(SP) finds His Brothers broken horn. It is never explained in the theactical version how He knows He is dead. Any news on relase date?

A sort of related question:
Anyone hear if there is going to be a RotK preview added to tTT similar to what was done with FotR and tTT last year?

Peter Jackson said no, but I did hear that there will be a RotK preview at Matrix reloaded.

43 minutes = wow

Heya:

Forty-three minutes sounds great. The extra 30 minutes (or however much it was) felt like tons more in Fellowship. It seemed like every scene had something added, whether just a few extra seconds of something new or more. And the only thing I wish they hadn't added to that was where Isildur fell off the horse and put on the Ring during the orc attack at the beginning. Just too obvious why they cut that out. Sometimes scenes _should_ be cut.

So, they're doing the thing where they'll release a standard edition and an extended edition later? I'm going to control myself and wait for the extended edition this time, instead of getting both, although I will go for a gift thing with cool bookends if available. ;)

Take care,
Dreeble

I could be wrong but Jackson is supposedly really busy finishing the TTT extended and the production on RotK. He said that there won't be a trailer until at the earliest mid-year. I don't recall where I read this but it was fairly recently...

Huorns at Helm's Deep? Holy Toledo, next you'll be telling me that Treebeard knew all along that Saruman was cutting down the trees and doesn't get "tricked" into finding out by the hobbits.

Okay, the film MIGHT be salvagable. The serious problems with TTT, though, I don't know if they can be solved just through more footage:
  1. Crappy dialogue. There's at least three moments in the first twenty minutes of the film where characters say things just so that we the audience will understand. Bad screenplay, bad.
  2. The "discovery" by Treebeard that Saruman's been a bad boy. It cheapens the whole moment.
  3. The "Massive" battle scenes keep us from empathizing with the characters, because we aren't sufficiently aware of their situation to be worried. Compare with the climactic scenes of The Fellowship, where you know enough about everyone's situation to be completely on the edge of your seat.
    [/list=1]
Of course I'll buy it and I'll watch it a thousand times. Even with the short jokes and shield sliding and far-too-quick-to-be-effective attack on Orthanc.

And I'll just keep my fingers crossed for Return of the King...
