Low-CR constructs with ranged attacks?

Do Dragon Magazines count?

There's an issue with a whole article about low-CR constructs, and I know somewhere in another one, there is a "cannon" golem.

If these are possible, I can hunt down the issue numbers.

Thanks. But it is quite hard to hunt for a certain issue of Dragon here in Japan :(

So using dragonborn in this case, may not seem appropriate. They will complain that Dragonbones should be their noble allies.
You could file the serial numbers off, and just don't call it a dragonborn. Call it a flame-spewing golem, and they'll never even know the difference. :)

Hmm. If I go that far, maybe applying spellstitched template to constracts may work better?
But it will become a criteria of house rule anyway.

Spellstitched would work fine too. If you've got players who are used to knowing what monsters can do, tossing in a twist like that can be really fun for them!

Maug from Fiend Folio. There's a Graft they can start with that spits rocks. Also, they can just use weapons.

Warforged... with bows.

Thank you for pointing out Maug.

Regarding Warforged, I have some specific reason not to use it in my current campaign (a PC is meant to be "the first one" in our world).

Now I am working on Maug but .. as a construct, they are only proficient in the listed weapon (Two-Bladed Sword) and their natural weapon, right?

Maybe I will just give them some class-levels. So this is not a big problem but I want to confirm.

And regarding that Stone Spitter Graft. Are they proficient in it? Or should they take weapon proficiency feat for it?

That doesn't seem very low-CR (maug's start at CR9 I believe). If you want to go that route, various modrons* use ranged attacks while still being low-CR.

* Note: even though they are listed as outsiders in the linked supplement, they are actually living constructs now (stats in the most recent dragon magazines).
