Low-CR constructs with ranged attacks?

Maug in Fiend Folio is a CR 3 monster with only 2HD. So even if I add 2 levels of warror class to it , it is still a CR 4 creature.

Ah. My bad. I was looking at their stats from the DDM Card... but those versions evidently have 6 fighter levels.

Yeah... Maugs seem like a good idea then (and their miniatures can be obtained cheaply).

I just had animated objects be statues and have them throw darts
Didn't work well, though, they can't hit at all well.

And regarding that Stone Spitter Graft. Are they proficient in it? Or should they take weapon proficiency feat for it?

The stone spitter is a graft, so it is explicitly not a weapon or magic item. There's nothing to be proficient in. It just does what it says (FF, p.207). No feat required -- or allowed! You can't take Weapon Focus (stone spitter), for example.

Necroing this thread, as I was ruminating today on golems with ranged attacks. I don't have a CR requirement, so the entire bestiary is open for consideration. I like the Maug with the stone-spitter box quite a bit. Arcane ballista doesn't quite fit what I'm looking for.

Iron Golems have the cone of poisonous gas

I vaguely recall decades ago seeing a glass or crystalline type golem that could focus light and release it as a laser-ish attack. Anyone recall that one?

Anything else?
