Low Light vision

How far can you see with low light vision in a typical dungeon setting?

I'd think that using a torch as illumination you'd be able to see at least a hundred feet or so (low light vision works so long as you have illumination equal to starlight).

My DM has currently decided that it works to the edge of "shadowy illumination" for a light source, which seems to kind of nerf it -- humans can see in shadowy illumination, so what's the point of low light vision?

Any RAW clarifications for this ability that would help me make it useful?

From SRD Types, Subtypes, and Special Abilities
"Low-Light Vision (Ex): A creature with low-light vision can see twice as far as a human in starlight, moonlight, torchlight, and similar conditions of shadowy illumination. It retains the ability to distinguish color and detail under these conditions."

From SRD Equipment
"Lantern, Hooded: A hooded lantern clearly illuminates a 30-foot radius and provides shadowy illumination in a 60-foot radius. It burns for 6 hours on a pint of oil. You can carry a hooded lantern in one hand."

This means that in typical dungeon setting with no other light source for a character with Low-Light Vision the Lantern would provide clear illumination to a 60-foot radius and provides shadowy illumination to a 120-foot radius.
