Low Magic Adventures for Iron Heroes

Iron Captain

First Post
Hi I'm currently starting an Iron Heroes game set in a world similar to that of Conan (i.e. sort of late ancients period (ancient greece, roman empire) where magic and fantastic creatures are rare and deadly).
I want to write most of the adventures myself but I thought I pick up some ready made adventures to steal ideas from or in case I don't have time to write something up.

Do you guys know any adventures that include little Magic and or Fantasy Creatures?
How are the Conan adventures for the new System? How about some of the older adventures for Conan?
I already know about the handful of Iron Heroe's adventures that are out there but i was just wondering if there are any other alternatives (Though Dark Harbour does read like a great adventure and I'm tempted to pick it up after having leafed through it and playing it here on the boards.).

Id like to hear about this too. I picked up one Conan adventure (tower of the elephant god or something like that, based on that story anyway) but I wasn't too impressed, it didn't seem suitible for a party and seemed like you almost had to be Conan to play it.

I picked up a Harn adventure "100 bushels of rye" which was pretty good although for my taste it as actually too low magic, there were too few encounters and it just wasn't hard core enough i guees. Could be good with a little more fleshing out though.

Some of the Cthulhu Dark Ages adventures, which are available free online with a little searching, are also pretty good but they are also quite encounter lite.

I'd love to hear about some other good low magic adventures.

Tower of the lephant seems like it could be a good 1 on 1 adventure. But for a group?

I'll probably check out some of the Conan stuff as I am stealing a lot of ideas from that world. (Maybe some of the old TSR Conan adventures if I can find them.)

Well Dark Harbor is a low level (1-5) campaign for Iron heroes. If you haven't checked it out you should. Add in the King Must Die and

You can get a lot of mileage from Dungeon adventures as well, if you use the low to mid level setups. For example, Hong used the adventure Ill Made Graves to introduce the game to his players. Ite seemed to work out well for him.

Discounting Eberron adventures, I can see most Dungeon adventures working in the 1-10 level range. The biggest issue is converting NPCs IMO. Currently we're having an ongoing discussion in the malhavoc forums about exactly this topic.

You can find it here:

In addition, some of us have been working on developing conversion guidelines for NPCs in adventures. I'm a firm believer in Villain classes, and I think most of them can be adjusted/developed to fulfill these needs

The guidelines we are working are here:

There's a new Conan module called "Conan and the Lurking Terror of Nahab" that looked pretty good upon initial page-through. "Across Thunder River" is also good, with plenty of IH-ish flavor, but not very well suited to the classical-period thing you're going for.

I'd consider looking at Necropolis if I were you; it takes place in a fantasy Egypt (which is certainly classic for a Conanesque campaign!), it's a long (and tough!) adventure, but emininently survivable by an IH party. (In fact, in certain ways, IH-ers will do better than D&D-ers, since the treasure distribution is wonky and good saves are a must.)

I do highly recommend Dark Harbor if you haven't run it yet; it's a great starter campaign and adventure, and (obviously) perfect for IH.

Also, I'd highly suggest trying to find an FLGS that stocks issues of Dungeon magazine. Several of the adventures presented there (usually the ones for pseudo-historical campaigns) are lower-magic than in default D&D.

Note also that there's nothing wrong with running standard D&D adventures in IH... provided that you do a little pruning and stick to lower-level adventures, as iwatt suggested.
