Lower Spell Resistance... other name

Subvert Planar Essence

Subvert Planar Essence (Clr5, Sor/Wiz6), from Complete Divine, might do the trick for you as well. Against outsiders, DR and SR are both lowered by 10 if they fail SR and a Fort save.

Is Spell Vulnerability supposed to replace Lower Spell Resistance? I think so. Otherwise we would have two spells which do exactly the same in exactly the same way with the only difference of one spell level for wizards (have the same spell level for clerics).
But why the completly different name?

No, it's not.
It was obviously poorly researched at first, possibly by a paTHEtic non wizard. Later a wizard came along and did it right. Hence a lower level for that caster type. The wizard may, of course, use the less than optimal spell. It is a spell slot level higher, and there are occasional reasons to want that.

Wizards often research different versions of spells.
Although, to be honest, it's a lazy wizard who uses the Lower Spell Resistance when he has access to Spell Vulnerability. If he wants a higher level spell he should add in something useful in his research, like a lack of somantic components.

Remember, metamagic feats are for the weak and lazy. Or for Sorcs. Never underestimate the sorcs....

Nice in game explanation.

But that still doesn't explain why WotC prints the nearly exact same spell in two different products with different names.
A accident is hardly possible considering the special mechanic the spell uses.
