Lucas compares Revenge to Titanic?

First Post
I wish I could have gotten into the Star Wars discussion started by The Serge, but by the time I saw the thread it had quite a few posts and I won't comment unless I read the whole thing.

I saw this article: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7224080/ (EDIT: FYI, I do not read spoilers and to me this article had nothing in it that I had not already known through official channels) though and thought that Lucas could not have compared Revenge of the Sith to a worse movie as far as I'm concerned.

“It’s not like the old ‘Star Wars,”’ Lucas told theater owners at the ShoWest convention. “This one’s a little bit more emotional. We like to describe it as ‘Titanic’ in space. It’s a tearjerker.”

Does this harm your view of the movie?

(Please understand this will not prevent me from attending a midnight first showing.)

Nope, not at all. Not that I'm a fan of the Titanic, but I don't think Lucas quote was supposed to be taken too literally in terms of anything other than the level of tragedy associated with both movies. Oh, and probably the level of success he'd like to have, of course. ;)

Titanic sounds about right. We know what's going to happen, just not the details of the story...and its definitely supposed to be an emotional one. Whether Lucas will pull it off is another thing, but the trailer with Obi-Wan screaming "You are the Chosen One!" with tears in his eyes helps it...

And yes, definitely the kind of success he's like. :)

Right. And just because Lucas says "It's a tearjerker," doesn't mean it will jerk tears.

Didn't he say Attack of the Clones was "dark"?

:\

hmm... I actually like Titanic, even though it's not a great movie by a long shot. Still, I can't see Star Wars being that effective in manipulating my emotions. If Lucas means it'll be a technically impressive, ultimately hollow movie where the male lead sinks into fluid at the end, I'd agree.

But I cried at Titanic, and I cannot imagine crying for Star Wars.

I'm not gonna pretend I'm all mister tough guy or anything like that, but Titannic elicited practically no emotional response from me. It was kinda morbid to watch the ship sink and all the people die, but it wasn't tearful.

Now Braveheart, on the other hand, makes me cry 'til my eyes hurt. Heck, even the LotR movies make me cry, but certainly not Titannic.

No, because I simply assume that Lucas was talking about RotS failing at the box office and sinking like the Titanic.
That way, I can keep my sanity (or what's left of it).

Its all because the boat sank.

Should've used spoiler tags...
