Lucas compares Revenge to Titanic?

It's a marketing ploy.

I just figured it was something that popped into his head because he's been hanging out with James Cameron pushing digital projectors and the upcoming 3D projects.

Does this harm your view of the movie?

Let's just say I don't consider it a flattering comparison. Before Titanic, I loved everything I had ever seen by Cameron. It was a colossal letdown for me.

After I saw Titanic and the house lights came back up, all the women in the theater were crying. I could not understand why they were all so sad. You go see a movie about the Titanic, and you just KNOW the boat is going to sink and lots of people will die. They should have shown more backbone. Its not like it was some big plot twist, having the boat sink.

Oh, I know. But I was also quite unmoved by Leonardo di Caprio sinking as well.

I've never seen Titanic and I don't care about seeing it either. However, seeing diCaprio sink on film would move me — to joy. No tears here. :]

I probably won't cry during RotS either; I cheer for the Empire so likely the movie will make me happy. I certainly enjoyed the end of Clones where the stormtroopers were boarding the ships while Palpatine watched and the Imperial March played in the score.

You just don't get it. Everytime I see Titantic both versions I cry. And it just not about the horrible loss of life. In both movies the Titantic is just used as a backdrop for the story of the main characters and how it impacts their lives.

The woman were not crying for the Titantic but for the loss of love just so recently found.

So I can see how and why Lucus is using this as comparison. You know that Anakin and Padme will be pulled apart. There love lost. The caring between Obi-Won and Anakin will be destroyed.

Right. And just because Lucas says "It's a tearjerker," doesn't mean it will jerk tears.

Didn't he say Attack of the Clones was "dark"?

:\
It wasn't Full Metal Jacket but it did, after all, include the ostensible hero of the piece slaughtering children.

I think that qualifies for the term "dark."

Yes, it also had Threepio making dreadful puns while his head was being placed on the wrong body and such. But that just makes it a little cluttered. It doesn't remove the dark elements.

The prequels deserve their share of criticism, but now you're just taking cheap shots.

Simply, they got caught up with the romantic side-story. Any doof can make a film about Titanic. Only a few good individuals can make an emotional film about it.
