lucky dice

one of the players in my game always brings his foul lucky dice with him to the game. how i know they're lucky? his char has 16 16 17 18 13 14 in her stats, 66 hp at 6th level and gets a critical every 5th-6th attack. now there are a few possibilitys... 1. he really gets these rolls fair 2. he tells me what he wants the dice to show instead of what it really shows 3. his dice are wighted/loaded. if all the players used 'lucky' dice then everything would have been fine and i could give them some more powerful enemys to balance their 'luck'. the thing is, only one player has this everlasting luck, the other chars are avrg-good while his char is very good (NOT aligment). what can i do? he insists on using his own dice only, and will most likely leave the game if he is not allowed to use them. i've thought of a few things: always roll infront of me, so i he can't trick me anymore (if he did previosly). use a comp dice roller, so even if my dice are 'unlucky' he can use the comp, which is absalutly random. any thought and other kish?

have him roll in the open. Basically it comes down to trust, if you can't trust the guy to not cheat on die rolls forcing point buy and average HP is not going to solve the problem.

coming from somebody whose idea of a good time is making characters with ridiculously high stats (for fun, don't ever intend them to play in a game),

go for point buy. 36 point buy is for 'average' characters, but you can set it higher if your game warrants it. I've got 2 characters now that are point buy based and I'm having a blast with both. So insert those rules and and tell the guy that you are now making the rolls. If he doesn't like it, let him leave.

My friend has this crazy d20 that he's been using for 15 years. All legit (translucid), and been rolled so many times that some numbers are almost faded away, but DAMN do we hate it when he uses it as a DM. I sit to his right, so quite often when he rolls 20 he lets me see behind the screen as a "witness".

I hate that friggin die.

chessex sells cheater's dice.

a set of 7 with 1 normal d20 and 1 cheater d20 (two 20's no 1); plus a 1 normal d10 and 1 cheater d10 (two 0's no 1); plus 1 normal d6 and 1 cheater low d6 (two 1's no 6) and 1 cheater high d6 (two 6's no 1)

they come in all colors and types.

you have looked at them? the normal d20 and the cheater d20 look alike. they are the same color and shape and size. and...

the only way to tell them apart is to look at the numbers.
