M.E. D20: The Phantom of the Northern Marches [Full]

Inez Hull

First Post
Middle Earth PbP's don't have a good track record around the boards but I'm preparing to run the old ICE adventure "Phantom of the Northern Marches" in the face of the curse of Tolkein's ghost. I currently have 4 players from the last game to die courtesy of the curse; Mirth, RangerJohn, Festy Dog and Ferretguy. I am looking for one more player and one alternate to take GaryH's spot if he doesn't show up to claim it.

The characters will be likely starting in Bree but the adventure takes place in the southern edge of Rhudaur's Northern March around Third Age 2997. Given the locale, characters will probably need to have some capability to get by in the wilds or at least look after themselves. This game is prolly more suited to human PC's but I am certainly open to other races if you can find a good reason why they would be willing to traipse around northern Arnor. My aim is to correspond by email/messenger with every player and introduce them to the game individually the way Arador (for those who remember) did with his game.

I'm pretty much going to go with the entirity of Col H's take on converting ME to D20. Link here
Races available: All Humans, Wood Elves [no Sindar or Noldor], Dwarves, Hobbits (non human characters, particularly Dwarves and Hobbits will stand out in the region of the adventure and should have thought-out reasons for travelling and adventuring in the wilds of Rhudaur.)

Rules: 3.5E

Character Level: 4

Stats: 32 point buy (+bonus for lvl4)

Hit Points: max 1st level and 3/4 (rounded up) for levels 2-4.

Starting Gold: 500gp and one minor magic item of up to 2500gp value (please run your choice of magic item by me first - chances are though that I'll be totally OK with it)

Please email me at "lloydneill_at_hotmail.com" with a character concept and at least some kind of background and reason for "adventuring". Once we've got a party assembled I'll get in touch with each of you and individually introduce you to the adventure (ideally anyway!)

IH,

You should put [RECRUITING] in the thread title until you have enough players, and then [FULL] once that's done. Makes it easier for everyone skimming the threads. Just a suggestion :D :D

Yeah, I'm not planning on disappearing anytime soon. In fact I've just gotten a broadband connection today so I'm planning on being on the net a lot more!

Mirth, I'm only really looking for one more player, so I'll just leave it to the inquisitive at this stage until we've got one more and then mark the game as full.

That's cool, Inez. It was just a suggestion after all :D Really good to have GaryH on board, too. I'll try to get my character written up today.

I must admit, I'm very interested. I've always wanted to play in a Tolkien game, and they often use non DnD rules, which I don't know. So I'd like to jump at this one. What are the other players playing, class-race wise? My inclination is to play a Dunedain or woodelf Ranger, although if there are already several of these, I would prefer to play a spellcaster.

Mirth, I'm glad I spotted it! Since it wasn't labeled recruiting, just the ME tag and Inez's name got me to look closer. :)

Manzanita, I think I'm going to run Beregon, a character I created using Decipher's LotR rules for a previous failed game. Beregon is a Gondorian Noble (in Decipher terms). In D&D terms, I'm not quite sure... I'd like to make him a bard or bard/fighter, heck, ideally a bard/paladin, since the bard most closely represents the aristocratic background and battle leadership I'm going for. But Beregon is definitely Lawful.

So, Inez, would it be okay to waive the non-Lawful requirement for the bard? :D

OK. I feel pretty good about my Dunedain Ranger or Ranger/cleric. Are all the players starting again with new PCs? I'm chewing on a hobbit rogue (or Rogue/sorcerer) who got the adventuring itch from Tom Bombadill, in case that PC would be more useful. I'll play with them a little more & hopefully be able to post someone tomorrow. Inez, do you want us to post our PC here?
