M. Knight Shamalamadingdong - The Village really that bad?

I think The Village is a brilliant piece of film-making. Excellent directing, cinematography, acting, writing, and tone and imagery. Shyamalan is a master at bringing out nuanced, authentic performances out of his actors. And he writes films that can impact the viewer long after the film is over.

More than anything else, I think The Village is a love story between two very unique individuals who have very specific character traits that make them very strong characters. It was a pleasure to watch the two develop through the course of the film.

Like Shyamalan's other works, though, there's a lot more to the film than that. There are layers upon layers, and a casual first glance will probably have you missing some of them. I'm sure I missed some, so I'll be seeing it again. What I did catch on the first viewing was enough to show me that this film is presenting several very deep and potentially troubling themes; themes that I think Shyamalan was brave to present.

I enjoyed and was impressed by this film, and am looking forward to his next efforts. The Village earns a solid A in my book.

Thinking about it - even Earth is 100% lethal to man.
:D Quote of the day!

Although this isn't necessarily true: of the total humans who have ever lived on earth, it's only killed about 85% or so ;).

Signs: So, aliens are invading and kidnapping people. So, why doesn't the preacher go and buy a few guns ASAP?

The Village: What is the benefit to living near the woods with these monsters? Long life? Immunity to disease? No one gets the common cold?
