M&M: Island Secret Base Brainstorming

Kaladhan

First Post
My game session is in 10 hours, and I'm currently out of ideas for my current Mutants and Masterminds campaign. It is set in an Iron Age setting, meaning somewhat based 90s comics where the government can be as much as an enemy than Lex Luthor.

My players will explore an island that used to be a hide-out for the Atomic Brain (in the 1970s). They know that somebody else has taken it over in the last couple of months. They're going there to find out who (which of course, will be somebody with less than friendly intention).

They will suspect the new occupants to have something to do with the Mutant Army (somewhat like Magneto's Brotherhood of Mutants, a gang of terrorists). Instead, they will find an old mentor gone rogue and his new gang.

Yesterday, I was making the map of the base, and I had a brain fart. I would like to read suggestion on what possible features such a base could have. The old mentor doesn't like technology and probably didn't change the 1970s computers.

So suggest away!

Labs
Living quarters
Barracks for orange jumpsuit-wearing goons
Training dojo where goons can learn karate
Vehicle hangars
Doomsday device, partly complete. Maybe a mind control satellite, or a planet cracking bomb.
Volcano
Control room with map of the world, or globe
Computer room. 70s computer so it takes up a whole room on its own.
Detention cells in which to place any 'costumed interlopers' who interfere with villain's plans
Deathtrap for particularly annoying 'costumed interlopers'
Power plant, nuclear or geothermal

Well, you need the gorgeous lackey who is still loyal, but who has been getting bored and is having some doubts about whether a leader who dislikes technology can make it in the modern world. As a result, she'll try to play both sides against one another to shake him out of his funk. If she profits from it, all the better.

You also need the murderous henchman the size of a barn door. He was in a horrible accident, but was patched together by something other than technology. Magic? Animated wood? Water, wish fishes swimming in it? Something - but he should be huge, dumb and immensely strong.

If this is an Iron Age setting, you need the bloodthirsty, overly ambitious right hand man. You know the Eddie Haskell type who toadies to the boss at all times, and is so much of a zealot he makes the rest of the team look bad, but secretly wants to steal the boss's powers and use the organization for his own maniacal purposes.

Give me a couple hours, and I'll give you a non-statted rundown and description of Volcano Island, from Crooks!...which was the Brain's base.

As for further suggestions, if you have a copy of The Incredibles, take a look at how Syndrome has his HQ set up...
