M&M Paragons

Well, I've figured out why the official boards get such little traffic: What a poisonous group of regular posters they have there. Snide beyond belief. :\

For Astro City? Or the Think Tank? 'Cause if it's the ATT, I'm going to have to disagree with you...

Feel free to disagree, but you can keep the Atomic Think Tank. It doesn't help that at least one M&M Superlink contributor is among the offenders, since it validates that kind of behavior.

I'm afraid I do have to disagree - the ATT is one of the friendliest boards out there, right up with ENWorld. That said, I do think there's been a bit of a downturn lately, but that's also confined to maybe half a dozen posters who have always been the sort to bicker. The forums get plenty of traffic, and I for one think it's nice to have Steve and the GR crew, along with Superlink publishers like myself, accessible to the gaming public.

In any case, enough with the threadjacking - back to Paragons!

I find that a lot of it depends entirely on how you present yourself to the forum. If your first post to the forum is complaining that Super-Speed is broken because it will not let you get multiple attacks in a single Round or that Shapeshift is broken because the Archetype example in the book can only turn into animals you are generally going to get strong responses to your statements.

A lot of people come to the forum to do nothing but tell us everything that is wrong with the game. Many times all their statements would be easily avoided if they just took two minutes to do a simple search. If I was given a dollar for every time I have explained to someone how Super-Speed worked I would have a much bigger RPG collection now. :)

The ATT is a fairly friendly place but that does not mean everyone is going to agree with you when you post there. Some people do not like to be corrected. Such is life. :)

Or you can just look at the threads where every post is a "and let me correct YOU, dear sir," and it goes back and forth in an endless pissing match.

I appreciate the desire to blame the victim here, Black Mamba, especially since I'm not the one these idiots have gone after, but your board is full of asses who get their sense of worth by peeing in the faces of everyone else there. That it's an acceptable part of the ATT board culture doesn't make it any less piss.

But thanks for helping to illustrate my point, alpha dog.

If someone doesn't like to be corrected, they should either learn to stop being incorrect or stop talking. Being corrected when incorrect is a big part of life and if they can't deal with it, they should stop causing it.

The only forum on ATT that I frequent is the Roll Call section, specifically for the reason that in there most people aren't confrontational.

Also, most people assume that Search functions on message boards don't work, so they don't use them. The three largest boards that I frequent (SomethingAwful, WotC, and EN World) don't have working search features, so I don't even attempt to use the search features at smaller boards. I do use the Find feature of my web browser and skim through the first few pages of the forum looking for something related. If I can't find anything in 5 pages, I'll start a new thread.

Paragons seems like an interesting setting, and they recently posted Design Journal 2.

In Point-based and Effects-based games almost every aspect of it is open to interpretation. It is not like D&D where you can pick a spell like Magic Missile and know exactly what it does - and even the mighty EnWorld has had its share of confrontational posts on less succinct aspects of D&D such as AoO over the years. The openness in M&M means different people are going to see things differently. The board members are generally dealing with trying to find the common ground within that openness. This is no different then the type of back and forth banter that you would find on the HERO boards - HERO is also Point-based and Effects-based.

I am not blaming anyone but just as your tenure here on EnWorld has shown you that the same subject keep coming up countless times here it happens on the ATT as well. Your general attitude here does seem to imply that you were bitten by one or more of the board members and decided to strike back at them in your home arena. Fortunately for you there is always the option of not frequenting the boards you do not find interesting. It works for me. That is why my post count is generally so low here. :)

With an attitude like that I can see why you did not fall into the loving embrace of the ATT forum. :)

To my mind if someone asks a specific question on a forum they are generally wanting an answer and there are manyl people there who are happy to give answers. If someone asks a philosophical questions they are going to get answers based on each persons interpretation - that can lead to disagreement at times. If the person really did not want an answer but instead wanted people to tell them that their insites on the rules were simply amazing then they are better off not posting at all, IMO. You are not always going to get the answer you want so if you cannot deal with being wrong you are best to not ask the question. :)

Not to interrupt the entirely pointless kvetching, but could we get back to discussing Paragons and not some posters' chips on their shoulders? Thanks.
