[M&M2e] Red Sands Chronicles

The Ottoman nods to Seif. "Yes, take her with us would do. It'll be a worthy card in the gamble to come." The man sheathes the sword and looks for a suitable rope to tide up the woman.

"Sniper at caravan's two, high," informs the desert man, matter of factly. He waits that fraction of a second necessary for his allies to react and then, without further warning, triggers both his swords, points down. There is a blast of steam where he once stood, but already he's arched over the head of the *other* snipper, at caravan's nine, landed behind the man with a twist and uncoiled his leg in a vicious kick!

Free= Switch array to Pole Vault

And I was so looking forward to seeing her litteraly encased in ice. :)

This is over now. Your actions have made you an enemy of the Spartan Guard. We will make sure your superiors will know this. If you ever leave the city, you will be subject to the Spartan Law.

Lady Rasputina smiles, "You are a fool if you think that the Gregori and the Marshal's were not awaiting for this day, Spartan. Mars shall become fertilized with Olympian and Spartan blood, and we shall be free of your people's intrusions."

"Yes, take her with us would do. It'll be a worthy card in the gamble to come." The man sheathes the sword and looks for a suitable rope to tide up the woman and is able to obtain one from one of the awaiting crawlers.

"Sniper at caravan's two, high..."

Suddenly Lady Rasputina begins to laugh maniacally as Seif sprints forward and high volts towards the second sniper.

Seif notices a Grigori poking his body outside the roof's access hatch with his weapon drawn as he lands on the roof, ducks down to give himself a smaller targeting profile, spins around and unleashes a vicious kick at the sniper, knocking him off the roof...

As soon as the weapon hits the roof's surface, Seif he discovers, to his horror, that the riffle consisted of a metal pipe fastened onto a wooden stock. He then hears the access hatch slam shut behind him.

Lady Rasputina glanced at the Sahid and grinned as soon as the sniper's body hit the pavement. "It looks like your friend found one our our decoys. It's a shame he noticed them after the mobs left."

"Smart." Addresses dryly The Ottoman. "You must really want to hid what happened to the caravan. A shame, after so much effort, we are dragging you with us, to witness how he rescue the caravan, it's goods, and whatnot. And after that, when we are back, we will trade you for whatever we want. And if they refuse, we'll simply..." he leans next to the woman. "... dry you out like a mummy."

EDIT=Seif holds out the fake weapon for all to see before jumping down.

Stormy expression hidden behind his veil, Seif drops down atop the front crawler and tersely signals the driver to proceed.

"Follow or be left behind," he tells the others as the threads bite into cracked pavement. Hard blue eyes darkly pin the remaining 'sniper' in place as he goes by, swords at the ready. He is NOT happy.

[sblock=Actions]Ranged Deflect active for any attack against his allies. At least until they're out of the city.[/sblock]When underway, he resumes his previous path of inquiery: "What of the *second* caravan at the south gate, lord? Has it also been attacked?" The loss of supplies and personnel will be hard to compensate for.

Brian clambers into the bed of the heavy crawler Deezy's Beast had last been hitched to, ready to help her re-secure it before they head out. As their opponent speaks of decoys, however, the thought occurs to him: decoy snipers? Then does that mean there are real snipers hiding ... His gaze flashes across the rooftops, checking for sight, sound, or heat signatures of people his sword-bearing traveling companion might have missed...

((roll after posting))

"Smart. You must really want to hid what happened to the caravan.

Lady Rasputina laughed, "Why hide something when its easier to label the dead as dissidents and anarchists who were put down for the benefit of our Union's Future?"

A shame, after so much effort, we are dragging you with us, to witness how he rescue the caravan, it's goods, and whatnot. And after that, when we are back, we will trade you for whatever we want. And if they refuse, we'll simply...dry you out like a mummy."

An amused smile forms on Lady Rasputina's face, although Sahid is not sure if its due to her being tied up then pushed into a crawler, or if it is from his comments.

"Follow or be left behind," Seif yells out as he returns to is camel's position at the lead of the first crawler.

I'm assuming the following conversation happened as Lady Rasputina was being tied and before she was shoved onto the Heavy Crawler.
"What of the *second* caravan at the south gate, lord? Has it also been attacked?"

"No, they were not. Their foreman has connections with the laborer's guild and they managed to bribe their way into a caravan headed to the aethermines south of Victoria Town."
Lord Burroughmeister paused for a second. "I am hoping that our brothers at the Viking Gate will still honor our bribes, if not, we might have to force our way through..."

* * * * *

Brian eyed skyline for any clues that may reveal the location of a real secondary sniper, but fails to notice any. However, as soon as the caravan began to lurch forward, Brian hears the sound of a gunshot coming from behind and notices the remaining decoy sniper tumble to the pavement.

Brian eyed skyline for any clues that may reveal the location of a real secondary sniper, but fails to notice any. However, as soon as the caravan began to lurch forward, Brian hears the sound of a gunshot coming from behind and notices the remaining decoy sniper tumble to the pavement.

Brian shudders. "Did we just do that, or did Rasputina's man just kill his own decoy?" Brian asks. "Either way, we should get out of here fast.

Seif stands very straight atop the front crawler, his camel now trotting a bit behind and to the side. If the subtle movements of his dark robes are anything to judge by, then he is breathing deeply -- breathing and watching.

"We do not need to use a gate," he says after a long pause where it seemed he would not speak at all. "The wall is not perfect." The wall that surrounds the city is not unlike a 30 ft wide reinforced concrete dam, with some sections actually hollowed out to form rooms or access tunnels. Some parts are less well maintained than others, perticularly in the abandonned sectors... "Though I do not know of a place where a caravan could pass."

Lack of perfection in his knowledge of the land is... vexing.

[sblock=OOC]+5 Help Another 1d20=2. Failed.

Seif is perfectly willing to leave the decision to wiser heads. The Ottoman or lord burrowmeiseter come to mind for the primary roll, or James, as he's a local. Anybody who'se lived or patrolled in the near abandonned sectors, or anybody who came to town via an unusual direction might have spotted some weakness in the wall as well (i.e. be able to Help Another if they feel so inclined). I'm willing to spend a hero point for a re-roll if we're below 20 on the final total.[/sblock]

Brian's question is answered over the caravan's radio by the Lady Rasputina's muffled laughter.

"We do not need to use a gate... The wall is not perfect." Seif paused. "Though I do not know of a place where a caravan could pass."

"You're speaking of a phantom gate. I thought about using them when initially planning this journey; but unfortunately, I only know of one: Mutant Gate. I'm sure you can guess why I would be hesitant on that 'gate'." Lord Burroughmeister paused for a moment, "Brother Shaughnessy, Brother Faunterleroy Featherstone-Smythe, do you know of any? Surely if you two have not then maybe one of our visiting brothers or our visiting sister may have spotted one during their time outside the wall."

OOC: I'll allow you to come up with some of the details on the Phantom Gates.

Brian and James can make an intelligence roll at +2.
Aeaxeos can make a civics/law/profession roll at +5.
Sahid and Deezy can make int roll +0.

Results:
Dc 10: Everyone knows about the gate and its most likely going to be sealed off. Patrolled multiple times each hour.
Dc 15: Well known an extremely large group of people and patrolled once every hour.
Dc 20: Well known a large group of people and patrolled once every few hours..
Dc 25: Known to moderate number of people. Patrolled once every few days.
Dc 30: Known to small number of people. Patrolled once every few weeks.
Dc 35: Known to few people. Patrolled once every few months.
Dc 40+: Unknown to all except your character. Never patrolled.

The patrols do not necessarily have to be Watchmen; they can include gangsters, bootleggers, mutants, etc.
