[M&M2e] Red Sands Chronicles

[sblock=ooc] I am still around, but currently James doesn't really have much to say, since he is out of his depth. So he remains silent and observes. :) [/sblock]

Indeed. It was standard caravan code. Aerial Patrols in the direction of Nice. Shouldn't be much to worry about, but better be ready. Aeaxeos confirms Deezy's conclusion.
“We will avoid Nice,” concluded Seif with a frown. He still had no clear understanding of who was in these fliers, or why they should give chase to a rescue caravan... but it could wait.

[sblock=OOC]Since they’re directing us away from danger, can Deezy and Aeaxos’ deciphering rolls be considered Help Another rolls on Seif’s “caravan stealth” roll? Say 17+2+2=21 or variations to that effect?[/sblock]
"There is not need to worry too much about it. I too was not expecting aerial patrols to be a problem since they don't tend to hassle caravans. However, it is worry some if they decide to pester the Conveyer's caravan since they were initially traveling along side the Aethermine's supplies."
Nothing to be done about that, and so the desert man did no worrying of his own. He simply cradled the radio back on his camel’s built-in hook, secured the dust cover and proceeded onwards.

** INTERLUDE **
Relique du Madde and Voda Vosa said:
Lady Rasputina smirks. "What exactly do you want me to explain? Why they Grigori and the Watchers would allowed me to be captured and seemingly let your caravan waltz out of the city unscathed? Or is there something else that is your nagging at your curiosity?"

Sahid watched at the woman for a moment. "Register her for transmitters or any other bug." the Ottoman concluded.
Without comment, Seif closed in and began methodically patting her down with the steady, automatic respect one afforded a defeated warrior from another combine.

“The roadblock,” he said to her, their face barely a foot from each other for the now. This made him smile, minutely.

[sblock=Actions]Watch for any attempt to bite or headbut, please. Spit he’ll take for a diversion and try to remain focused on her actions.

Take 20 to search lady Rasputina = 20. [/sblock]

Feeling a bit of a third wheel, Brian keeps to himself. He'd be no better at intimidating the Rasputina woman than those already with her, and since he had no skills in navigating, he decided the most helpful thing he could do was keep his eyes open. Drigibles would work off super-heating, and though the others didn't know it, his own sensitivities meant they'd likely stick out like lights in the night sky with the chill air in the desert.

OOC: Notice / lookout. As above, I figure Brian's infravision might make it harder for airships to hide from him in any cloud cover or similar gaseous concealment effect

roll to follow

Unless asked otherwise, Deezy remains in the Beast, keeping half an eye on the sensor display (radar, with 1 level of Extended range) and half an eye on the reactor load readout.

The muted sound of a map being unfolded could be heard as Aeaxeos and Deezy related the pieces of information they gleamed from Conveyor I's message.

“We will avoid Nice.”

"I will send our brother's a message to telling them to continue of their journey." Lord Burroughmeister stated over the caravan's local band. "Assuming our brothers are traveling non-stop, they should arrive in the vicinity of Buvinda Vallis in about 13 hours. If all goes well, it should only take our caravan about 11 - 12 hours to reach Buvinda Vallis assuming we travel non-stop and at maximum speed."
OOC: Buvinda Vallis is located about an hour west of the region where the stranded caravan is located.

As the caravan sped forward on the revised route, Brian strained his eyes as he searched the sky for signs of the aerial patrol. After a few moments, Brian noticed two small faint fast moving specks of light moving away from Victoria Town. Immediately, Brian knew what they were, an a patrol of aerodynes. Luckily, the patrol seemed intent on searching for the caravan in the wastelands to the east.

30 minutes later....
As per Seif's instructions, the caravan made its way into a large ravine in a narrow valley south-west of Victoria Town. According to Seif, the ravine eventually lead into a canyon wide enough for each vehicle in the caravan to travel side by side; for the moment, vehicles are required to travel in a single file line under a steep 50 ft. cliff, which Seif instructed the drivers to hug.

While driving under the cliff, Brian, Deezy and the rest of the group members who are not apart of the interrogation find themselves on the edge. Not only are you unable to scan the eastern sky for signs of the aerodyne patrol, you also find yourself unnerved by occasional rocks that tumble down the cliff-face.

Then unexpectedly, you begin to hear the sounds of an propeller engine reverberate off valley's walls. Moment's later, two aerodynes banks into your sights about one hundred feet in front of the lead vehicle at a low altitude...
Aerodyne Patrol Notice: 1d20+3=9 vs 21 ---> Caravan success

Luckily, the patrol did not notice the caravan; however, if they traveling the opposite direction....

Meanwhile... in the Medium Crawler's bed...
"Register her for transmitters or any other bug."

Seif nodded to Sahid and he knelled by Lady Rasputina's side and began patting her body, causing the grigorieva to laugh. "You filthy proles should have though about doing that when your disarmed me." Lady Rasputina leaned forward and whispered, "Maybe you were afraid that the girl in the machine would be jealous of the attention you savages would be giving me and that is why you are searching me while her back is turned." An impish smile formed on her lips.

At that moment Seif rested his hand the grigorieva's sleeve, just above where her arms were bound. He feels what may be some sort of wrist device or a watch. Lady Rasputina smiled coyly. "A coming of age present, from my father."
Lady Rasputina Bluff: 1d20+6=26
Seif Sense Motive: 1d20+1=19 vs 26 ---> Fail.
Sahid Sense Motive: 1d20+1=14 vs 26 --> Fail.

Believing her, Seif begins his interrogation. "The roadblock."

"What is so difficult to understand about the road block? You and your cohorts have been labeled as dissidents and our orders were to capture Raymond Burroughmeister and any aristocrats or boardmembers of local 310 who were assisting him and bring them in for questioning." She paused, then coldly added, "We were also given the authority execute any individual we deemed fit. Unlike, what your benefactor may have told you, this never about a stranded caravan. His aim is to topple our society's order and to destroy the Great Martian Union."

Lady Rasputina leaned forward and whispered, "Maybe you were afraid that the girl in the machine would be jealous of the attention you savages would be giving me and that is why you are searching me while her back is turned." An impish smile formed on her lips.
Hm. "I am presently available, if that’s what you're trying to fish out." His lips peeled back from his teeth the tiniest of amount.

Seif feels what may be some sort of wrist device or a watch. Lady Rasputina smiled coyly. "A coming of age present, from my father."
“Uh.” Seif laid two fingers on the wooden grip of the revolver tucked into his belt. "From my father as well," he explained as he ripped her sleeve without undue kindness, that the Ottoman could look upon the device. "It will still kill; is made to kill."

He did not add 'as well you know', but the message was there in the narrowing of his eyes.

[sblock=OOC]I interpret the bluff roll to mean Seif is convinced it IS a coming of age present, from her father. To his mind that doesn't equate "harmless", but I'll modify the above if that's how the roll was meant to be seen. If not, what does the device look like?

Voda, Seif considers Sahid as primary on the main interrogation line, hence his lack of comment on the Roadblock matter. Let me know if that's not what you want, OK?[/sblock]

"And how exactly would retrieving goods from a stranded caravan, be understood as an attempt to destroy the Martian Union? As you may already know, we are not going to give you second chances. You are still alive because you are useful, either because you can give us information or as a hostage; so you should tell us everything, and explain your reasoning and reasons. Unless you want us to think you are not useful any more. I think you might picture what we would do to you in that case." replies The Ottoman, regarding the roadblock.

What should I roll to analyse the device?

"I don't think they saw us, but if they're buzzing this area, I don't think we can count on them only doing a single pass, especially with one of their own on the line," Brian says. [color]"How much further until we're out of this canyon? If it's more than a few minutes, we might want to look at how we can camoflauge ourselves until we can be sure the patrol's clear."[/color]

OOC: Brian has a +13 stealth and one level of Teamwork, but I'm fairly certain you can't apply that to a caravan.

"I am presently available, if that’s what you're trying to fish out."

"And taint my bloodline with that of the proletariat? I think not."

"The merchants are trying to dismantle the union! They seek anarchy, not order. The seek individualism, not collectivism. By abandoning our creed and foregoing the union's rules and bylaws the merchants are stating that they have the right of autonomy and that they can choose how and when they can do business. If they have their way, we will become a society of slaves. We will be indebted to the merchants who can set the prices of goods according to their own whims. The landlords will raise rent to point where we must decide to either starve to death or to pay room and board. Making matters worse overseers will have the ability to terminate a citizen's employment or lower their pay without explanation. Why, all because they are seeking to undo the protective regulative measures our fore-fathers set up to ensure that everyone in our city-state is safe, productive and without fear of loosing one's livelihood. The merchants are evil, evil people and they need to be stopped, at all costs." Lady Rasputina stated in an fanatical manor while revealing her began to reveal some of her preconditioned delusions.

Seif motioned at his gun. "From my father as well... It will still kill; is made to kill." He then tore away at Lady Rasputina's coat sleeve, reveling the strange bracer the woman wore.
OOC: I intentionally kept the bluff ambiguous. After all if she got the "mysterious" item as standard equipment a few red flags would be raised. :D

The bracer appears to have an elaborate clock face consisting of two sets of concentric wheels which rotate so that the time is readable only as the numbers line up to two small indicators. The main clock face is a 12 hour, 60 minute, 60 second clock. The secondary clock-face is a 40 minute, 60 second clock.
OOC: Yes, I decided to undo the pre-game martian time standard retcon. Each of the Great Cities and surrounding settlements tend to use different standards. Victoria Town observes 24 hour day with a 40 minute 'non-hour' in the middle of the day during which time (and most work) effectively 'stops' for 40 minutes. This 'non-hour' is locally known as 'noon-rest.'

The most extreme example of time discrepancies is illustrated by the Olympians whose time measurements are based on "Earth" standards. That is they use a 24 hour clock, with a 365 day gregorian year opposed to the 669 day martian year.

Attached the the clock is a thin metalic box that is about two inches long. The box appears to have three panels. The first and the third panel appear to be covered in some sort of metallic grated mesh, while the center panel contains what appears to be multiple small beveled dials and knobs, an indicator gauge, what appears to be two flat slide button with three settings and push button.
OOC: Without experimenting, a knowledge: Tech check to know exactly what it does. However, since the device is based on multiple pieces of common tech, an Intelligence check to guess various functions. I'll let you re-roll the checks because it wasn't described before

Outside.

ooc: Teamwork would come into play if you are assisting in the roll, not if you are the main person doing the roll.

Lord Burroughmeister quickly began to scribble on his map before picking up his radio. "About ten minutes for this canyon at our current speed. We leave this canyon in about 20 minutes."
