M2: The Search for Goblin HQ

(2) I just returned from the funeral, still grieving but back online regularly. It's good to have a fantasy game for a little escapism. I won't be back at work until Monday.

(4) Nurlan's crossbow is already loaded, right? He'll fire at the hobgoblin.

Congrats, Vigwyn, be extra nice to your wife now! Sorry to hear your bad news Orsal.

Anyone volunteer to NPC Somac for a couple days? I'm going to hold Irene's action. She can't effectively target Jezibel with any spells, as she can't see her and hasn't seen her since she entered the cave. She also can't see the hobgoblin well with all the big people around, and could well do more harm than good with a sleep spell in that melee. I suspect that hobgoblin won't be around much longer anyway...

Somac can't effectively back out of the cave, and at this point may not want to. He swings his greatsword at the last hobgoblin, now revealed in all its ugliness by the light on Rinaldo's buckler, but again, totally misses. (second 1 in a row for old Somac) The fire still burns fiercy on his skin, but extinguishes this round. (6 pts)
Charlyn casts his CLW spell on Irene, bringing her back to full health. (cured 11 pts) Nurlan also delays, looking for a shot between Somac and Rinaldo. His effort proves unneeded as Rinaldo deftly drops his third hobgoblin with an expert rapier thrust.

At that point a heavy ball flies out at Rinaldo, striking him dead in the chest. Immediately he is covered thick goo. (Reflex save DC 15 successful. Rinaldo is at -2 attack, -4 dex, and half speed.) The ball flew from behind a boulder about 10 feet ahead of Somac. Immediately afterwards the lithe figure of a woman shoots out and dashes deeper into the cave, and out of light range.

Tenebrynn casts his light spell and prepares to move in. Ashnar notices that the sahaugin just off the beach by the cave resurface. As he sees their scaley heads, he lets loose with a bolt of frost, but only succeeds in freezing some nearby water. Nurlan and Irene can still act.

From the water, two crossbow bolts fly at the party. Again, both miss, as the sahaugin archers prove quite inaccurate. A third head and crossbow appear by the first two, though. The four down the beach succeed in smashing down the door. One then staggers backwards, struck by a hobgoblin axe.

Tenebrynn stick close to the others watching as Sahuagin seem to pour up out of the water. He really could use a bow and tries to remind himself to pick one up next time they are in town. With no magic missiles left on his newly scribed scroll he prepares himself to attack the scaley creatures if they come out of the water.

Rinaldo will move foward and try to remove the goo.

Eager to get to Jezibel, but not to get in front of the rest of the group again, Irene does nothing except trying to motivate her friends with a kind reminder of Jezibel's current position: "She might be getting away! Hurry up!"

Round 15

Round 14: Nurlan uses his wand to cure 8 pts to Somac

Irene encourages the others to advance. Rinaldo sees no way of getting the goo off, but advances none the less. Somac falls in behind him. Rinaldo advances about 15 feet, pausing briefly as the opens up a little into a 15 foot squarish room with a boulder to the south and a passage continuing beyond that.

The rest of the party files in after them. Charlyn remains outside the cave, putting away his melee weapons, Tenebrynn stands with him.

They see the sahaugins emerging now from the other (square) hut, lugging a wooden chest between two of them, heading back towards the water. More ominously, four now emerge from the waters close to the cave, not quite attacking, but setting themselves up, tridents pointing at the party, cutting off retreat. In the water, the crossbow sahaugin reload.

Anyone up for NPCing Somac?
