Mac based mapping applications?

I think you'll find dundjinni is the closest. I use it to make maps for my use at the table, larger battle mats and I use the export (JPG) feature to use maps in my PbP game. Be prepared you will probably need to purchase the "Castle-temple-village" add-on, it costs $30. It was well worth it. Total cost $70 (Software on CD (ordered by FLGS [includes both MAC/PC versions] and the add-on). There are many links within their forums to free user created stuff as well.

Dundjinni is definitely the best. Really sucks that us Mac users keep getting the shaft. Personally, I use Photoshop. They are too many things in mapping programs that I can't do how I want.

Mac Users are so the new Ranger. We should at least have d10 HD... and our applications are way too front-loaded. I mean, why bother to go buy $500 worth of software when everything is pre-loaded... lame.

(pecks angrily at his G4 Titanium PowerBook, wondering why he ever converted...)

If you are planning on running a campaign online, you can use rptools.net and their free mapping tool.

Wow! That's cool enough to almost make me want to make the time for an online game. Almost.

Appleworks has a Draw module.

Yeah, that'll work in a pinch. I used to love that suite (back when it was known as ClarisWorks), but it stagnated since Microsoft hired away the entire team. Especially sad since there really wasn't that much that needed attention. Looks like they've stopped bundling it since the Intel switch.

Hi ! Trevor from rptools.net here. Thanks for the kind words all. Just a note that maptool is geared toward both online and offline play. It even has a fullscreen mode if you are using a dual head or projector setup.

We're always looking for ways to improve, we'd love to have your input, feel free to post your thoughts over in our forums: http://forums.rptools.net

As an example, a recent addition to the development version is textured drawing. Combining that with infinitely sized maps you can make some really spectacularly large maps that zoom out to atmosphere levels, then in to "Is that a bald spot on your head" level :)

I use Dungeon Design Tool, by Runtime Revolution Ltd. for mine.

It's limited and a bit clunky, but functional and I think I picked it up for $10 at rpgnow.

Yeah. I saw that. Pretty cool as well, but I'm even farther from wanting to use something like this in an offline game than I am from starting an online game. (^_^)

If you have an intel Mac, use bootcamp, or paralells if you can afford it. Plels now supports botting off your bootcamp partition so you can use one windows environment both ways. Plels will run anytihng that doesnt need to use 3d graphics at full speed, fully integrated with your mac, and for the rare cases where you do need 3d, boot camp has you covered.

Virtualization has opened up a whole new world to this Mac user.

I don't reboot. Well, for system updates that require it, but even that annoys me.

Parallels I'm all for. I was very happy with VMWare under Linux in the past. But my wife has instituted a strict "no Microsoft Windows" policy for the household.
