Mage Knight 3D Dungeons - Cool

These are cool, but the amount of time to build and paint them is huge.

LOL... No doubt it's a good bit slower than clicking together the MageKnight 3d dungeons... BUT I can make anything I want with my molds! I'm currently working on the crypts from the Temple of Mishakil in DL1, and will be starting on the Moathouse from Hommlet in a few weeks.

It does take some time, but by making rooms modular, once you have made one, you can use it over and over agin. Just make sure you have enough to complete the dungeon your sending your party through.

If your already into Miniatures, this is a next logical step. If you embracing the new D&D mini's simply because they are cheap, and quick to use, then you might not have interest in Hirst arts!

Assuredly, my group moves slowly, and I've been able to build ahead of them, but if you play regularly, that will be a tad bit tougher!

Pat,

I'm an avid modeller with NO time. I don't have the time to paint my minis I bought specifically for this game, much less the dungeon tiles I would have to mold and glue together.

Its a good compromise for me. Plus these things are practically indestructible, so someone who wanted to take things to other places would also make a good consumer of these things.

Well the doors do not take up the entire wall.:D
Just think of them as 6 foot doors centered on the 10 foot wall. Or just don't buy them. Sheesh. No one is makin' ya!:D

I'm just jabbing at you a bit Wraith....completely right. To each their own.
Cheers! :)

Hirst Arts stuff takes WAAY too much time, IMO.
Dwarven Forge is wonderful, but expensive.
The MK 3D stuff comes prepainted, is not very expensive, and is really close to a good scale. So it just seems like a great compromise to me.
You should try Ainsty. It's not pre-painted, but otherwise looks as good as Dwarven Forge (DF). The pieces are almost as varied as DF's, which is to say a lot more than MK. It's much cheaper than DF. I have both DF and Ainsty and IMHO they're equally good.

Hope that helps. :)

Admittedly, they are very cool. Awesome, even. When I get my own place, I'm definitely gonna look into getting some molds and setting up shop with that(maybe on my desk and possibly a second one, if I can find another decent desk for cheap or free), but for right now I don't have time to do that, nor the space.

Thanks for the link. That stuff is really cool. I will probably pick some up and give it a try. I am definitely buying one set of the mage knight stuff.

As for scale, you have two choices, you could use the 3.5 method of 1 square equals 5' or have the squares equall ten with doors not being to scale (not a big deal to me).

The 1 square = 5' should work fine. It gives you room to grab figs and better represents the ratio of creature size to space they "own" (5 sq ft).
