Magic 8-Ball, when will I game again?

It looks to me that you may need to find (or put together) a new group. You should start by having a candid discussion about the situation with your current group. If possibly, try to get something going with those who will commit to some firm gaming dates.

Otherwise, get yourself a new group, by hook or by crook.

the problem has been a mix of legit no-shows and guys flaking out so that our group- numbering 10 in total (not all of whom play in every campaign) may be down to 3-5 guys (again, who might not all have PCs for the scheduled game) when game night rolls around.

There was a time when I would have been delighted at being able to get 3-5 guys together. :)

Back in the early 1990s, I was in a group in Austin that had a similar size & issue, but we solved it by having everyone in the group be responsible for a campaign and everyone have a PC made for each campaign. (My idea.) Every week, 2 guys would be prepared to run (just in case one of the GMs had a conflict and couldn't run), and whoever showed up, played. It worked great. I've suggested that for this group, but it didn't fly.

That's a shame, because that pretty much is the solution. Time to find a new group.

Danny, 3 to 5 people could consistently make it? That's quorum for at least one shots right there!

My regular group meets pretty infrequently, but every time I think about the effort to find a good regular group in addition to my regulars, and how much energy work is sucking up this year, I'm just happy to game once or twice a month.

Its never the same 3-5 this year, not everyone wants to GM (or can, honestly), and there are always system issues. Several guys are D&D only...and that does not include 4Ed. That one didn't catch on.

The dude who ran the 4Ed game is talking about possibly running something else. I'm game, but I have my doubts about the rest.
