I'm the "good rules lawyer" - I don't question the DM, but I do have an encyclopedic knowledge of the rules. I often helped the DM design rules for unusual situations - he'd call me and ask how best to adjuncate a situation. In fact, I helped the DM too much: the players had a rule that if the DM asked me for advice at the table, they'd shut me up before I could answer.
