Magic Item books?

Honestly, the subject simply hasn't been covered nearly as much as you would think. There are several books devoted to magic, but they usually only have a section on magic items.

I believe there are several PDF products that are devoted to magic items.

If Arms & Equipment Guide works fine with 3.5 (I think it does), it should have quite a number of new magic items.

Otherwise, in case you're looking for a magic item selection, there's no single book from Wizards yet, but on the other hand more or less every single book has a bunch of items.

If you are looking for a general magic item treatise (item creation, as far I can think), there's the DMG :p . At least one 3rd party book exists from Mongoose which deals with item creation, but I suspect it is an alternative ruleset rather than an expansion of the existing one.

Hmm, that's surprising. I would have thought a 3rd party would have come out with a magic item book by now. I loved the 4 set Encyclopedia Magica books that TSR had for 2e. I figured a d20 3rd party book might have more unique items than what appears in the DMG. And flipping through one book for treasure ideas is always more convenient than reading a few pages out of a stack of books.

hmm..I think I can help the list
  • Bastion Press has a 3.5 (super-revised) version of Arms & Armor out.
  • The "Legends & Lairs" line of books has one for each magic item type (weapon, ring, etc), I beleive.
  • WotC has Arms & Equipment, of course (needs some tweaking for 3.5, but it's not bad)
  • Mystic Eye Games has thier Artificers Handbook, with alternate ways of crafting items, and surely (guessing?) several items as well.
  • Paradigm Concepts has their book Forged in Magic, all items of various types
  • Mongoose has the forthcomming Magic Item Creation...all about creating items, including legendary and intelligent ones. Their Ultimate Equipment Guide, has over a 1000 items, new and OGL collected.
  • Fast Forward Games has Occult Items of Power, about dark\evil magic items.
  • Green Ronin's Pocket Magica collects magic items from several OGL sources.
  • Alderac's Relics is about ancient magical items, with history.
  • Staves of Ascendance, and similar products, all from the Game Mechanics, present magic items that scale with the character.

ok...that's my list.

Arms & Armor 3.5 has mundane and magic items. From Bastion Press.

Artifacts of the Ages comes in two flavors now. First book is Swords & Staffs and the 2nd book is Rings. These are unique items whose power goes up as the character increases in his scion class.

Not a lot of other 3.5 books out on magic items yet.
