I liked the set as well.
In a nutshell:
Gharyn's Monastic Array:
Scorpion Kama (+1 kama that deals the monk's regular unarmed damage if greater than the kama's normal damage)
Cobra Straps (leg wrappings that allow you to move 5 feet after performing a charge)
Panther Mask (grants Run feat and adds +5 ft. to speed if in light or no armor)
If you have 2 items of the set, your Stunning Fist DC increases by +1.
If you have all 3 items, when you score a critical hit, you can use a free action to use a Stunning Fist on the target.
Nice. I liked sets in Diablo II, and this book seems very interesting.

Great. More Diabloesque stuff. How annoying.
The gems were bad, the runestaffs were good, the set idea is just terrible.

Set items existed in D&D long before Blizzard even released The Three Vikings, much less Diablo II.
