Nice concept and good for putting together quest adventures going in search of the next item in the set.

Except that with non-house ruled core D&D rules it's pretty easy just to make or commission the next in the set. It's much better if they are considered very low level artifacts (i.e. the ways of making them have been lost).

Agreed!

The LE Games has a few PDF's that look very similar to this. Some great stuff there. The idea of magic item sets is pretty sweet.

I gotta admit though, adding in the prereq for creation of "having another piece of the set" seems a bit lame. That pretty much means as soon as I get one piece, I head out and get the other two made for pretty cheap. Why bother with all those knowledge checks? If you get the kama first, the other two items only cost you a few thousand gp.

I like the idea of making them artifact level items so that they cannot be created.

Great. More Diabloesque stuff. How annoying.

The gems were bad, the runestaffs were good, the set idea is just terrible.

I am definitely not getting this book. Sorry, WOTC.

Right, because the Hammer of Thunderbolts, Gauntlets of Ogre Power, and Belt of Giant Strength combo wasn't a special item set.

Not to mention the Rod of Seven Parts, complete with each piece getting more powerful the more pieces you find.

Eye and Hand of Vecna? Unique item set? No way!!

Diablo got it from D&D, not the other way around.

Really, the "D&D is getting too videogamey" line was old about 5 years ago, and inaccurate the first time it was said, let alone the 10,000th.

Get a new complaint.

Oh no, more Diablo. Such a tragedy, that the premier dungeoneering TRPG should adopt stuff from the premier dungeoneering CRPG. Woe unto me, that I must tear my breast and rend my soul until the mountaintops do shake.

Or something. Maybe it's the pepperoni.

Hey - you're getting your sarcasm in my elitism, d00d!
