Magic Item Daily Power Usage Limits

Well, for those suggesting "don't grant <certain types of problematic> treasure"
They'll have to modify the Enchant Magic Item ritual as well.
Allowing PCs to make whatever they want, essentially turning the ritual into a shopping catalog consisting of all items ever published, is such a bad idea anyway, so you'll want to "modify" that ritual regardless. :)

Well, firstly, you get a daily item use every two encounters, so it's not like you're forever restricted.

But besides that, the idea is to de-emphasize magic items and emphasize the characters themselves. Hard limits on dailies prevents the party from loading up on cheap magic items with powerful daily abilities.


Also, Monsters aren't designed for the same purpose as PCs, so they use different rules to do so.

Don't forget that a player can only use the daily powers of different items, even if the item in question have two or more daily powers. Essencially, if you use one item's daily power, that's it, its usage was spent. If you have more activations allowed by your level, it must come from different sources (items). The milestones garantee the use of one more daily power of unused items (in this case, even that of items with more than one daily power).

That was a HUGE issue in some 3.X campaigns I followed and played in. People took craft feats if they didn't feel like the DM was giving them enough/the right equipment. That's basically saying to the DM "I don't trust you to run treasure/economy in the game correctly."

Some DMs can't, unfortunately, but still, that's a slap in the face when used in that way.

And encourages them to pick up ones with static pluses, at-will, or encounter powers instead.

Fortunately, at-will and encounter powers on items tend not to overshadow those of the character class, so this is not much of a problem.

And how is that much different than 'You can only use one Daily every other Encounter' as it is now? At epic tier, you're pretty much at that point already.

It was so much better when it was a feat and the item cost half as much!

If that was a jab at 3E (I can't really remember the 3E crafting rules) I'm all behind you. :)

D&D has fostered an evil atmosphere where players feel entitled to being given access to all possible items just because they bought the book or they feel cheated long enough.
