Magic Item List sorted by Caster Level?

Does someone have a list of Magic Items sorted by Caster Level?

I imagine they would still be separated into their group types. But something along these lines would really help in quickly determining what magic items my PC could create.

Best bet would be to see if your DM will simply nix CL as a prerequisite. Often the CL are nonsensical, and it makes so much more sense to just rely upon access to feats and the appropriate spells.

Not much direct help, but better in the long run if your DM will agree!

Well, as far as I can remember, it's not completely clear on the CL being a prerequisite. Some interpret it as yes, some as no. Some point to a designer saying that it should be one way, other say it doesn't matter that's not what the book says.

Although I think alot of people fall into the "it's a prerequisite" camp. Me personally, I think it isn't. Too many low powered items have rediculous caster levels. If I have the feats and spells to make something minor, why then should I have to wait several levels before I can create it? But there are a lot of people that will disagree with me.

I agree about nixing CL and think that DM's should probably handle it on a case by case basis.

It would still be nice to have a sortable list, though. Even if a low CL items with high gp costs are in there too.

I think you're right about things like "Sovereign Glue" which is CL20, but 2,400gp. Fun little low cost items like this would be great at early level.

However, a case could be made that dispelling it would be too easy, if the CL were too low. And whether or not it could still be called 'sovereign' glue, if its magical strength was variable.

Extrapolating item availability from the possible spellcaster demographics is... well.. just screwy. How many 20th level caster are in your world to make the stuff?

I prefer the 3.5 rules as a default where nonvariable CL magic items are exactly that: nonvarying. By which I mean, CL is a prerequisite.

If anyone who knows of a viable system for changing static CL magic items, it would be great of you to post it.

[but really, I'm just looking for a magic item list sorted by Caster Level]
:)

With regard to caster levels, both 3.0 and 3.5 DMGs are identical and very clear that caster levels are a minimum for any creator (except for potions/ wands/ scrolls). Monte Cook, the writer, recently admitted that this was so. If it were changed there would really have to be some significant changes made for it make sense (like to pricing).
