Magic Jar/Template question

Hey All,

This may be elementary to most but here goes...

If you wanted to cast a spell with Celestial or Fiendish as a component requirement, but did not possess that template, could you Magic Jar and take over another's form which does have that template and then cast it?

If you say that mental abilities includes spells (I do), then I'd say yes. You also need any other material components, so you'll need to go grab your spell component pouch from your original body.

Can you Magic Jar (non-native) outsiders?

"you can attempt to take control of a nearby body, forcing its soul into the magic jar."

Outsider type
"Unlike most other living creatures, an outsider does not have a dual nature—its soul and body form one unit. When an outsider is slain, no soul is set loose."

I would say you can't magic jar outsiders. QueenD's 2coppers.

Sorry for the hi-jack, I know a lot of creatures can have the celestial/fiendish template that aren't outsiders, but I thought I'd bring it up FYI.

Good point, Werk. I would say that you can't possess outsiders (I'd make exceptions for Aasimar/Tiefling type outsiders though, I figure they should be possessible).

Though if you did possess a fiend, I can picture a funny "anti-exorcist" scenario. The poor marilith, afflicted with human possession...she can't turn her head 360 degrees, she has a strong desire to eat pea soup and not spit it up, instead of spouting blasphemies she can only say things like "have a nice day" and "how about a nice cup of tea, then?"

Since Native Outsiders can be raised as normal, I'd say they have a seperate soul and can be magic jared...

As a side note, if you used a soul trapping effect on an outsider, would the body disappear? :)

I think the most fun way to play this situation might be to make the spell work fine, except the target's soul doesn't go to the jar. Anyone seen "All of me"? The caster can leave the body and return to the jar if they like.

Kinda like if you magic jarred the body of a recipient of The Void from a Deck of Many Things.

I'd say yes. This is how you get the "demon imprisoned in the crystal" type situation.
