Magic of Faerûn

If you buy one 3rd Edition Forgotten Realms product, it ought to be the FRCS. If you buy two, make the second MoF! The core 'trademark' spells of the Realms are presented in the FRCS, but lots of nice extras are presented here. Of particular note for 'world-crafting' DMs are the basic theory behind the magic of the Realms, more magic items than you can shake a stick at, and detailed descriptions of rare precious and semi-precious magical components.

I found Magic of Faerun to be a solid 3E supplement in all respects. The prestige classes were well done and included popular choices like War Wizard of Cormyr and Guild Mage of Waterdeep. The spells, while powerful, are on a par with the FR setting as a whole and add some much needed variety to any spellcasters repertoire. The deity specific cleric spells were also nice, though they only whetted my appetite for Faiths and Pantheons. The uses of gems and special materials was well done, and was good to see in a 3E product. Taken as a whole, Magic of Faerun is a good addition to any spellcasters library.

I was about to say... what archmage?

Magic of farun

review

By Ryan Ori

Magic of farun is a great book that combines the new uses of magic classes with new spells. It has many new ways you can create a unique mage for any game.
The incantrix is a good example of a cool powerfull presige class. The ability to shape spells, change the damage type (fire to sonic, who is immune to sonic), shape spell, ( oh wait i already said that well it is worth saying again), and improved counterspelling are just some of the new options that incantrix gives you. I played an incatrix in a game one time and used his ability to drain items so often it was sick.
There are also some realy good spells in Magic of Farun. They are some all across the board from not powerfull to realy powerfull to just usefull. In testing most of them are well balanced for their cost.
Overall this book is well designed and a good resorce for any d&d game.
