D&D 3E/3.5 Magic of Faerun in 3.5?

This is a really simple question. Can material from Magic of Faerun be used in 3.5?

If it is not permitted, could you please offer a brief explanation?

(BTW, I know that it is up to the DM in the end, so don't give me that as an answer!)

The spells were updated for 3.5 and appear in Players Guide to Faerun.

I don't know how many changes there were, and whether any spells were dropped. If you have a specific query I might be able to help (I have Players Guide to Faerun, but not Magic of Faerun)

A friend of mine told me that PrCs from MoF are not compatable with 3.5. He raised this concern specifically in regards to the Spelldancer PrC. I was under the impression that MoF, even though it was printed for 3.0, was usable in 3.5.

The question this brought up is more broad though. Does it say somewhere if 3.0 FR material can be used in 3.5, or is all of it useless now?

Edit: Actually I was just looking at PGtF and it does seem to address this issue. It says that if a PrC from MoF was not updated then it can be used as it was printed in MoF. I guess I need to show my friend this. Thanks for pointing me to the PGtF, I didn't know where the issue was addressed.

Some MoF spells also reappear in Complete Divine, Complete Arcane and Complete Adventurer (mostly with only minor changes).

So if it doesn't re-appear in any 3.5 books, shoudl we regard it as dropped? Or can we use it as it was?

I just found out that in the beginning of PGtF it actually breaks down what old material can be used and what can't. The general rule they give is that if it hasn't been updated in a new book, then the old version is perfectly fine.

That's correct.

A majority of the material has been converted and covered elsewhere, but anything that hasn't been is still 'official' realms material.

If some material seems ill-suited for the use under 3.5 rules, then just don't use it, but generally most is fine.

Just because there's a revision of the rules doesn't mean that all the "old" stuff suddenly becomes "illegal". 3.5 was a revision, after all, not a new edition. If and when a new version is released in a 3.5 book, you should use that, but only because there is no 3.5 Darkmask of Vhaeraun doesn't mean that you may not use that PrC.

I use MoF items in my 3.5 games. Mainly magic items and spells, but as others have said, take a look at it and rule out what you think is game unbalancing. No need to discard the whole book.

Of course I am someone that will look back to old 2nd edition Realms books for possible material also....
