Not to hijack my own thread, but

Thank you Crothian.

When I posted my first thread here, I think that I had a worry that it would be ignored. Now I post confidently, knowing that someone will always respond. (usually Crothian, since you don't TILT the post count without working at it.)

ST1, do you use both extensively? Do they have different campaign flavor or are psions just a different type of spellcaster?

Don't have much of a choice for use :). One of my PC's is a psion, and I'm playing a rather magic heavy environ.

I modified the 3.0 psionics to get a different feel. Helps me create NPC's that aren't wizards with points. I've created two main psionic NPC's: one's a dwarven metacreative currently tutoring the PC, and a wiseman similar to a hindi yogi.

I'm playing a dragonstar campaign, and psions have to register with the Empire. The trade relies on extensive use of teleport, and having someone walking around (or on the pay roll) capable of using Detect or Divert Teleport is a very bad thing...

I voted "Something else." Basically, IMC, psionics and magic act on the same forces, but using different methods and having different lores associated with them. So a magic Resist Energy helps against a psionic Energy Ray (assuming the same energy type of course), and Dispel Psionics works against spells. Detect Magic detects psionic powers, but wouldn't be able to ID the school/discipline.

Psicraft is a totally different skill from Spellcraft, and Knowledge (Psionics) is totally different from Knowledge (Arcana).

They overlap for the most part-- Spellcraft and Psicraft grant eachother synergy bonuses, and there's only one Use X Device skill. Item Creation Feats apply to magic and psionics equally, and most magic or psionic weapon/armor special abilities can be created using either power.

On the other hand, Knowledge (arcane) and Knowledge (psionics) are separate skills, Metamagic and Metapsionics are separate, dispelling psionics or negating magic impose caster/manifester level penalties, and creatures with SR X have PR X-5 (and vice versa).

I am actually tempted to create a similar divide between Arcane and Divine magic.

I run with 100% psionic-magic transparency.

But then again, I also allow dispel magic to disable high-tech effects.

When I use them together, they are Different.

But for the most part, don't you dare get psionics mixed up in my fantasy campaigns ;)
