Sure, that is a question of story based design vs game based design. I generally find story based design more interesting and game based design more practical (at the table). Ideally you can mix and match as needed. I don't think you need a one size fits all answer.As far as emulating the old version in the new edition, I think you did a great job!
However, I question the underlying design framework of magic resistance in all editions (and legendary resistance, for that matter). Basically, super cool monster defenses are only interesting so far as they are (A) specific and say something about that monster specifically, and (B) have some way that PCs can counter them.
Mythical figures like Antaeus who couldn't be defeated as long as his feet touched the ground are a good example.
I get that it's more design work, may not be to everyone's taste, and may not fit what you're wanting to emulate. Just my two electrum pieces.
I will say that I am not convinced that I am going to use the ideas discussed in this thread. I think it has its place, but probably not so important in sub-epic levels to be a standard line in a stat block. I do think it might make sense for epic level (levels 21+) PCs and monsters.
