Magic Scrolls, Need Power Ideas

First Post
My new gameworld centers around magical scrolls, many of which are prophetic. The PC's recently acquired their own prophetic scrolls and are learning of the power within them. Each of these scrolls is connected to the essence of it's wielder.

What I'm trying to do is come up with some powers for the wielders to get from the scrolls. I'm mostly looking for options here.

I figure I'll make a chart and roll to see what each PC gets from their scroll, adjusting things to make sure the powers fit the characters. I'm leaning away from offensive powers, but if you've got a real good one, please share it.

Here's what I've got so far:

Magic resistance equal to 10+ character level. Usable a number of rounds equal to 1+ charisma modifier.

Damage reduction equal to the character's constitution modifier for a number of rounds also equal to 1+ the character's constitution modifier.

Auguary usable an number of times equal to 1+ the character's wisdom modifier.

Double the ability modifier related to a particular skill usable a number of times per day equal to 1+ the character's charisma modifier.

Does anyone have any other ideas? Please share them with me.

Thanks in advance,
ThaDium

I think my difficulty resides in the premise of how such a magic item exists. A magic scroll that gives spell resistance for a certain number of rounds? How? Why does it work like that? And how does it identify the person it was "meant" to be with?

It doesn't make any sense to me. I don't understand how a scroll is going to do these things if they aren't in the form of a spell.

I hate to put it this way, because ordinarily I would think of it as a cop out answer, but the answer to your question is... Magic.

The premise of my game world is that there are nine ancient/god-like/artifact level scrolls. One is tuned to each alignment. These scrolls are the cause of all of the conflict in the world as they vie for dominance.

These nine scrolls have created lesser scrolls that foretell the coming of the person who will wield them and grant their wielder powers once they arrive.

The PC's are the wielders, and I'm trying to figure out what powers they should get from their scrolls.

I realize it breaks with the D&D game mechanic for scrolls, but hey, I'm the DM! :D

Come on Painfully - GET REAL.

You are not asking a question about magic with the words "why does it work like that?"

To quote Freddy Mercury:

"It's a kind of magic "

Oops!

I forgot all about the original question.

In old days (OD&D) there was many types of scrolls with special powers. They were usable by any character that could read.

Their powers were mostly protective like:

Protection form XXX (xxx = anything from lycantropes to elements and from poison to magic)
