Magical Prestige Classes

I was talking to my friend today and he brought up an interesting question about the magic-using prestige classes.

It doesn't seem to say in any description of one (the Loremaster, for example) that you get any more Spells Known in addition to spells per day. Does this mean that every magic-using prestige class that uses magic by adding levels to your previous class is useless for a sorceror? The description only says that you get more Spells Per Day, not anything else.

I never thought about it before. I always just assumed you got both, but now I'm not so sure... I was wondering if someone could find a rule on this.

Err, please, I hope you're writing it without having your books at hand, and having read them once distractly...

Focus on "+1 Existing Class" meaning... ...it's on every magic user PrC description...

Veldrane, I hope your brain was screwed on with your half attempt at answering Spunes question. This was the least useful response ever. Perhaps you can give your opinion (or a reference to some one elses opinion, one who knows what they are talking about). So, please answer spunes question, if you have an answer. I would if I knew the answer to his question.

Yes, you do get more spells known in addition to spells you can cast. A wizard still gets his 2 spells per level and sorcerers and bards use the for more spells known.

The sage has ruled on this, and if you think about it a bit, it makes sense. Otherwise, very little incentive to be a sorcerer and take a prestige class for 10 levels if the benefit is only casting more spells, not knowing more spells.

It's been clarified in the FAQ that "+1 spell level" also includes learning new spells.

Yes, this means that some prestige classes give out freebies for sorcerers.
