Magical Whip

Crothian

First Post
I'm playing in a low magic Greyhawk game and I've got a 11th level Bard/4th level Lasher. The whip is his primary weapon. Currently he hasa +1 Dagger wHip of Acidic Burst. after we killed a Black Dragon I took one of it's teeth and made it into the blade part of the weapon and that allowed it to become an Acidic Burst weapon. WE just killed a Blue Dragon and I've got a few pieces. I'm going to use the Blue Dragon parts to improve the weapon, but I want magical abilities that reflect that pieces are coming from a Blue Dragon. Making it shocking or shocking burst is an obvious answer, but I already have acidic burst, and I think adding lightning damage is rather boring. So, does anyone have any ideas what I could add besides lightning abilities that would reflect upon the power and abilities of a Blue Dragon?

Well blue dragons are great burrowers and live in the sand... mabey something off of that angle? They also use lots of Illusions as their abilities as they age, as well as the ability to create or destroy water. Truthfully I cant think of anything interesting but mabey you can from that info.

Here's what I've come up so far:

1)Whirling the whip over my head and creating an Hallucianary Terrain. The spell takes ten minutes to cast, so I'd be controlling the whip for ten minutes as it slowly seeped out from me and covered the area of effect.

2) Something a little more combat oriented would be allowing the whip to fire lighting bolts as a ranged touch attacks. I would guess range would be like 50 feet and damage would only be 2d6. It can be combined with my other attacks, but I could only do it once every three rounds like a dragon's breath weapon.

3) Possible takingth e power of dragon fear. Anyone struck by the Whip makes a will save DC 20 or suffer the effects of fear.

I like the being able to hold only lighnting type spells, but since I have no lightning spells and the only other caster is a druid, I wouldn't be able to make good use of that ability.

THe digging idea is interesting, but I'm not sure how that would look with a whip. And that applies with the creating/destroying water.

Those were all good ideas, but I think the whip limits what would make sense as far as magical abilities. THanks guys

The Blue Dragon is mostly a desert dweller right?
And you've got a whip?

That just screams SANDSTORM!! to me.

It sounds like you've got a pretty flexible DM, so I would develop a power along the lines of whirlwind attack only much weaker in terms of damage but greater in area of affect. Perhaps the ability as a full round action to selectively do 1 point of damage to everything within 15 ft.

Not necessarily exactly this but something which combines the sting of tiny pieces of sand being blown into you with the tiny sting of the tip of the whip....

I was thinking along the same lines, like a spell or spell-like power usable once per day. Maybe like an area-effect blindness that would affect anyone who wasn't expecting it (i.e., once the party sees you whipping up a storm, they cover their eyes or something (everyone else make a Reflex save or be temporarily blinded). Or it could work like Summon Swarm, doing minor damage and preventing concentration or spellcasting, but the sandstorm can only be dispelled by wind, not fire.

It's not that I have a very flexible DM, it's I have that likes the role playing aspects. If I were just trying to make a magic item like this, I'd get laughed at. But becaue I've gathered the materials and am trying to come up with powers that reflect those materials, he's allowing this.

I like the sandstorm idea. I'm going to think that over and see what I can come up with......
