Maintaining Both Acrobat Reader 7 & 8 ?

Now, you must understand that I was actually doing this for quite a few months. Recently however I made the mistake of 'repairing' my installation of Acrobat Reader 8, and in the process it wiped out my installation of Acrobat Reader 7.

I want to keep Reader 7 because Acrobat Reader 8 refuses to recognize some of my older, DRM protected PDFs (picked up back when Drive Thru was giving away a free PDF every week).

Does anyone have any idea of how I managed to do that in the first place, and how to do it again?

Installing them both in a different program path each should usually work just fine. Probably best to install 7 after 8 and disable any automatic updating from 7.

Repairing the installation... well, I can imagine, that they remove other installations (since they are most likely useless as you have a newer more up to date version), altho they should at least prompt you to do so... they probably think they know it better. *shrug* ;)

Nope - 8 automatically removes 7 when installing, even on different paths. 7 looks for later versions, then stops if it finds one. No luck. I have no idea how I managed it before.

Install 7 => zip folder => install 8 => unzip 7

Don't know if that saves the reg settings of 7, but is worth a try.
You could use a Virtual Machine for running the older Acrobat version.
Contact the original pdf distributer (DTRPG) and explain the situation, maybe they can help. What kind of DRM is it? Maybe you could remove it?

That's unfortunate. Most programs work that way.

Good question. :)
