Making A Challenge 30 Undead Monster

Your limited magic immunity is a bit powerful. Remember that in 5E there are far fewer high level spell slots than 3E.

One of its Legendary Actions should be to automatically make a save.

You might consider an aura of death: 30' radius necrotic damage. And the breath weapon should be necrotic too.

Have you tested it against a test group of Level 20 PCs?

Thanks for the feedback. I think you're thinking of Legendary Resistance which isn't actually part of Legendary Actions. You will see if you look above that The Lingering Havoc does indeed have this trait.

I definitely considered a death aura, but I feel like this beast is already dealing out a lot of damage. Something to keep considering for sure!

I thought about making the breath weapon necrotic, but I wanted the monster, as a Challenge 30, to dish out multiple damage types, so a single resistance wouldn't counter all its attacks. Plus the breath weapon gives the poisoned condition, so poison damage felt right.

I haven't playtested this yet, but I am eager to do so!

At a glance, that looks pretty competitive. It seems like a well-constructed monstrosity. I like the dropping of wights, it`s a very flavorful ability (although fewer, more dangerous monsters might be better from a mechanical standpoint).

Thanks, MortalPlague! I toyed around with it dropping Death Knights instead, but I was afraid that could get out of hand real quick.
