Making fun of D&D

Did I miss omething in the article?

The only reference to D&D is one line which reads...

Is this a bunch of people playing the football version of Dungeon and Dragons?

That hardly seems like an attack on D&D and, in fact, makes sense since D&D is known as a fantasy game, and he's writing about fantasy football. To most readers, I'm sure the word fantasy conjures up images of wizards and dragons, and therefore, the sentence creates a nice bit of wordplay.

Nothing else in the article is directed at D&D or those that play it. Frankly, I'm stunned at the number of knee jerk defensive reactions from this community of self proclaimed intellectuals.

Well, you indirectly hit the nail right on the head there. Gamers are "self proclaimed" intellectuals. In my experience, those proclamations fall pretty flat. In reality, which shouldn't really be very surprising, gamers are just regular people, and run the same gamut of personalities as the rest of the population.

No, to most readers, they're thinking a different kind of fantasy role-playing game ... behind bedroom doors. :p

I'm a paladin with 18 charisma and 97 hit points. I can use my helm of disintegration and do 1d4 damage as my half-elf mage wields his +5 holy avenger.
