Making official D&D module maps

Is there a software program that the dungeon and indoor maps in all the official D&D modules are made from? Or are these done by hand.

Well I don't think there is a program. The WotC maps are the result of a combination between very talented artist that use high-end hardware and software (I Have a sneaking suspicion that this involves Macs and software by Adobe). There was a short article about making maps for WOTC in one of the Dragon annuals, or so I believe, I'll try to dig it up when I get home.

You'll often see credits that include a cartographer. That would be the guy who draws the maps. The cartographers are the reason that 3rd edition module maps don't look like the 1st edition module maps. Thank goodness for progress!
