Making something positive out of something negative.

The (continual as well as present) layoffs at WotC sadden me. But, as OpsKT points out in the other thread, boycotting WotC would only lead to more layoffs (and as others have pointed out, liklely no impact on upper management, who appear responsible for the layoffs).

Beyond that, I'm not even sure something like layoffs CALLS for a boycott. It makes me sad, and they keep letting go of great talent, but it's not reprehensible to the point that I won't buy their products.

However, it's the holiday season. A season for giving thanks, giving gifts, and sharing. In light of that, and also in light of the recent layoffs at WotC, I'm going to support companies a little extra this year; companies who I believe value employees, and their own game as more than commodities.

Hopefully, it'll help keep those companies strong, and prevent future layoffs.

For me, I'm a fan of how Paizo works with their employees as well as customers (and appears to value them).

I'm buying two beginners boxes from Paizo and donating them to the local library. Maybe it'll get some kids playing.

:)

EDIT: While not a company, I'm also going to find something written by Lou Agresta. He's an author/designer I like, and he put in weeks upon weeks of work on Sinister Adventure's yet to (never to) be released Razor Coast. He seems like someone I'd really like to support.

I'll go one better and pledge that as long as Creative Mountain Games stays in business under current ownership, 100% of the current employees will continue being employed with Creative Mountain Games.
