a hobbit's tale (you can decide if its by Bilbo Baggins or not)

hope that helps

Thanks for the help.

The random name generators are interesting, but I was really looking for things that link into the Forgotten Realms campaign. Books are not common there, but Sembia does trade in them so I'm currently in one of the better areas to pick up some books.

I liked Elder-Basilisk's list the best so far, although I'm not understanding the relevance of some of the names. I recognize the place Halruaa, but have no idea who Dalean Red Tiger or Boddyknock Ginkle are. I really don't know that much about the Forgotten Realms, which is a big part of why I was looking for suggestions and gave precise dates. I don't want to list a personality that hasn't even been born yet.

As for how books are made in the Forgotten Realms, as I understand it most of them are hand made. There is a magical printing press machine that some worshippers of Gorm have working, but they are keeping it a secret right now. Anyone else has to copy them by hand. Fortunately, there are lots of reasons for people to copy books including it being a religious rite for worshippers of Oghma.

It hasn't been a problem finding books as a player. I've even found a couple of shops in Searloon that specialize in books.

Thanks to everyone who has replied so far.

A lot of them are references to the plot and NPCs of Neverwinter Nights. Since I don't remember the date when it was set, they might be a bit premature but since they're hardly major personages of the world--even in the game--that's not really a problem. They'd just be different people than the ones I had in mind. . . .

Does anyone know of a location on the web where I could find the names of various famous people in the Forgotten Realms?

Right now, I'm specifically looking for a moderately famous Gnomish wizard who could have written a book on Transformation magic. He would have had to have written it before about 1145-1150.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Here's one I put together that I think combines a lot of great features from others of these types online.

You'll find that this seemingly simple HTML/Javascript Utility Generator is more than meets the eye. Containing hundreds of nouns and adjectives, it has the ability to churn out millions of random but useful titles for books, songs and poems for your Medieval/Fantasy game. Aside from that, its HTML page appearance allows you to use the screen of you computer to present the titles as a stack of books, or print the stack and use as a handout in your game. With each click of the generator, one dozen titles appear which can be taken as is, or manipulated to better suit your tastes or campaign. Further still, many of the titles will spark your imagination toward new plots and scenarios.

But this is not all you get for this one time purchase. As a bonus, once you have the Lexus - Unlimited Titles Volume 1 generator, you will be able to download additional updates and future volumes as the data lists within will continue to grow on at least a quarterly basis. Grab yours now and never get stuck for a titles again!

Click here for a closer view of the generator appearance. Be advised that the artwork may change with future volumes.

It is available now through RPGNow.com

Hope that helps. :)
