Maleficient trailer (or Angelina Jolie as a naughty sorcereress/druid)

Naked and living in a barrel
Visually it looks good, but that is to be expected from a Disney romp.

I guess Jolie is now at the age where she will only be cast as an evil old woman.

Damn she is skinny. Ewww.

Honestly, at this point it feels like the whole "classic fairytale but with a twist" genre is rather oversaturated. Frankly, the only thing that would make this film refreshing is if they don't put a new spin on everything.

It will probably be teased before release (may 30th), but I'd be happy if it wasn't. It is the big special FX effect of this film. Might as well be surprised and see on the silver screen.

I remain optimitic about its aesthetics.

Is it a twist, ala Wicked?

I thought it was just a live action remake of Sleeping Beauty -- which I'll admit is my favorite of the classic Disney films, mostly because of Malificent and the dragon scene.

I don't know much about it beyond the trailer, but the trailer itself seems to be selling the "with a twist" angle, what with that "You know the tale, now find out the truth" tagline.

Still, you can never trust that sort of thing.

Driven by revenge and a fierce desire to protect the moors over which she presides, Maleficent (Jolie) cruelly places an irrevocable curse upon the human king's newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Aurora (Fanning) is caught in the middle of the seething conflict between the forest kingdom she has grown to love and the human kingdom that holds her legacy. Maleficent realizes that Aurora may hold the key to peace in the land and is forced to take drastic actions that will change both worlds forever."[3]

So yeah looks like a sympathetic retelling from the villains perspective. But the aestetic looks good and Jolie looks suitably evit bit...

I fell off the Disney bandwagon in the early 1990s. I did go to see Hunchback in the theater, but I skipped Mulan, Hercules, Princess & Frog, Enchanted, and Tangled. I have yet to see Frozen. (Wasn't there an Atlantis thing in there, too?)

I used to be a Disney fan. I doubt I'll see Maleficent. I also doubt that Walt would have approved: he wanted things to be done his way; and "his way" was usually described by the Disney company as "heartwarming." Is Maleficent going to be "heartwarming?" (Doesn't look or sound likely.)
