Umm, you might be referring to Emiricol the Chaotic (who is from a picture in the 1E DMG) and Mordenkainen (who was a PC of Gygax's), but Malhavoc in relevance to D&D is Monte's.

Malhavoc was a character from my own early gaming days. Not Gary's. I'm really pretty sure there is no Malhavoc in 1E. There is a somewhat similarly named character in a Planescape book (I put him there--and I think he got copied into Manual of the Planes) and the correctly-spelled name is mentioned in the DMG, but it's not necessarily the same character.

So it seems that smoking to heavily on that pipe will make you loose your mem ... er ... where was I ... oh yeah ... I was about to ... oh ... never mind then ...
